Richardson Lifts Men With 27 Points
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- Michigan Tech held off a late charge from
Ferris State to win, 57-53, in GLIAC men's basketball. Radayl
Richardson scored a game-high 27 points including two free throws
with 3.7 seconds left to ice the victory.
Richardson opened the game with a three-pointer and had 15 of the
Huskies 27 first-half points. Tech led by as many as 11 points in
the opening frame before FSU hit a jumper with two seconds left in
the half for a 27-18 score.
Michigan Tech held on to an 11-point margin with 7:20 to play after
Josh Makela made an impossible layup. The hosts made a run to get
back into it starting at the 5:17 mark. The Bulldogs' Dennis
Springs connected on two three-pointers and two other players made
layups to cut the Tech lead to 52-51 with 2:10 to play.
The Huskies answered on the next trip down the floor as Ed Ross
dunked home a rebound of Richardson's jumper. Tim Strom then drew a
charge on Antwaun Holt's drive and Richardson made one-of-two free
throws on the other end for a 55-51 lead. FSU scored a layup with
five seconds left, but Richardson iced the game at the foul line
with two makes.
Richardson finished with a game-high 27 points. Strom added 10
points and nine rebounds. Ross was named Superior Player of the
Game with six points, seven rebounds, and two blocks in 30 minutes
of play.
Ferris State shot just 32 percent from the field compared to MTU's
43 percent. The Huskies also held a 39-34 rebounding advantage.
Michigan Tech (14-12, 10-7 GLIAC) will have a week off before
traveling to Northern Michigan for the regular season finale on
Saturday (Feb. 25). Tipoff for the men's game is set for 1 p.m.,
and will follow the women's contest which begins at 11 a.m.
