Richardson Scores 26 Points; Tech Shoots 57 Percent for
Game
HOUGHTON, Mich. -- The Michigan Tech men's basketball team
jumped out to an 11-0 lead and cruised to a 75-58 victory over
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division
rival Lake Superior State today in front of 1,704 at the SDC Gym.
Three Huskies seniors -- Bob Evans, Kelsey Fors and Craig Genung --
playing in their final regular season home game were honored in a
ceremony before tipoff.
Tech held the Lakers off the scoreboard until the 15:38 mark of the
first half. LSSU scored five-straight points to cut it to a
six-point deficit before Radayl Richardson began his hot shooting.
The 6-3 guard made each of his next six field goals -- five of
which were three-pointers -- to help the Huskies to a 50-27 lead at
the intermission.
Richardson wasn't the only Tech player to shoot well in the first
20 minutes. The team finished the opening half at 71 percent from
the field and 73 percent from behind the arc.
Lake Superior State never got closer than 16 in the second half,
and the margin was as many as 26 before the final gap of 19.
Richardson tallied a game-high 26 points -- 19 in the first half --
and was the only Tech player in double figures. Nine other players
scored. The three seniors combined for 15 points. Fedrick Bowe
corralled a team-high nine rebounds. Robby Springborn recorded nine
points and four assists.
MTU finished the game at 57 percent from the floor compared to 31
percent by the visitors.
Michigan Tech (13-11, 9-6 GLIAC) will travel to face Grand Valley
State next Thursday (Feb. 16) at 8 p.m.
