Huskies Finish Country Inn & Suites Classic at 2-0
HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Sarah Stream and Katie Wysocky combined to
score the game's first 12 points and Michigan Tech never looked
back in a 78-49 victory over local rival Finlandia tonight in the
final game of the Country Inn & Suites Classic at the SDC Gym.
For the second straight night, all 10 Huskies played and scored
points to help Tech go 8-1 in its last nine games and 9-3
overall.
Stream led all scorers with 19 points in a very efficient night's
work. The 5-7 sophomore made eight-of-12 field goals and had three
rebounds, three assists and no turnovers in 22 minutes of play.
Freshman Danae Danen was outstanding off the bench with a
career-high 11 rebounds and career-best-tying 12 points. She also
notched two assists and two blocks.
Tech led, 38-25, at halftime before scoring the first 13 points of
the second half for a 51-25 lead by the 17:00 mark. The gap was as
high as 31 points and never less than 20 the remainder of the
game.
Wysocky and Amy Storer joined Stream and Danen in double figures in
points. Wysocky had 13 points, while Storer matched a career high
with a dozen.
The Huskies shot 43 percent from the field and were more impressive
on defense. Tech limited the Lions to 26 percent from the floor and
forced 24 FU turnovers.
Michigan Tech will resume play in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference on Wednesday (Jan. 3) with a trip to face
#3-ranked Grand Valley State. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Notes: No Husky played more than 25 minutes in the game ... Tech is
now 16-0 all-time against Finlandia ... MTU freshmen accounted for
41 of the team's 78 points ... The Huskies have averaged 75.3
points per game over their last four contests and allowed opponents
just 54.5.
