Team Moves Back Over .500 at 6-5
SAGINAW, Mich. -- The Michigan Tech women's tennis team swept
Saginaw Valley State, 8-0, in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference match today at Potential Energy Racket
Club.
The Huskies won every match that was finished during the day, with
Whitney Schoep's number five singles match unfinished because of
time restraints at the indoor facility.
Tech swept the three doubles points with Samantha Jang-Stewart and
Monika Malinska combining at number two doubles for an 8-0 victory.
Silvia Oliveros and Amy Palmgren were 8-4 winners at number one
doubles, while Heather Neff and Schoep clipped their number three
doubles foes in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (4).
In singles, neither Oliveros, Malinska, or Neff surrendered more
than three games in their respective wins at number two, three, and
six. Palmgren topped SVSU's Katie Hanover, 6-4, 6-3 at the top
flight. At number four, Jang-Stewart was a 6-4, 6-4 victor.
"We came ready to play today and set the table for singles with the
success in doubles," said head coach Mike Axford. "All of our
matches went really well, and it was a very solid team win to start
the weekend."
Michigan Tech (6-5, 4-4 GLIAC) will face perennial GLIAC power
Northwood tomorrow at 10 a.m.
