Huskies Set School Record By Allowing Just 12 Points in First
Half
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- Michigan Tech led wire-to-wire in a
54-45 win over Lake Superior State in men's basketball. The Great
Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory was the Huskies
second consecutive.
Fedrick Bowe notched career highs of 14 rebounds and nine points in
the contest, while Tim Strom added 19 points and seven boards.
Josh Makela gave Tech a 2-0 lead with a long jumper on the Huskies
first possession and they led the rest of the game. Later in the
half, Bob Evans hit back-to-back three-pointers to put the visitors
on top, 14-4. MTU's defense limited the Lakers to just eight more
points the rest of the half to set a school record for points
allowed in a half (12).
Strom made two free throws four minutes into the second half to
give Tech an 18-point bulge. The gap remained at 14 points with a
minute to play before LSSU drained two straight buckets for the
final score of 54-45.
Tech held a 37-31 rebounding advantage and out-shot the Lakers, 41
percent to 37 percent.
Radayl Richardson also reached double figures in scoring with 12
points.
Michigan Tech (5-8, 4-3) will host Wisconsin-Parkside at home next
Tuesday (Jan. 10) at 7 p.m.
Note: The previous school record for points allowed in a half was
13, set Feb. 7, 1981, vs. Northwood and tied Jan. 10, 2001, vs.
Hillsdale.
