HOUGHTON, Mich. -- The Michigan Tech men's basketball team was
defeated by visiting Northern Michigan, 70-45, tonight in front of
1,782 fans at the SDC Gym.
The Huskies were out-shot 43.5 percent to 29.5 percent from the
floor during the contest. Three-point shooting proved especially
tough for the hosts, as MTU was able to get just one-of-13 to
fall.
Tech scored the game's first four points before Northern answered
with a 14-2 run. The Wildcats built up a 34-19 lead at
halftime.
Tim Strom's jumper with 17:17 left to play made it a 13-point game,
36-23. It remained a 13-point gap with 15:48 to go before Nick Buck
drained back-to-back three-pointers for a 19-point NMU advantage
with 14:03 left. Tech was never able to mount a comeback.
Radayl Richardson scored a game-high 15 points for Michigan Tech.
Strom added 10 points. Georgio Holt, who was one of 10 Huskies to
come off the bench, registered a career-high and team-high six
rebounds.
Michigan Tech (3-7, 2-3 GLIAC) will remain at home to face Grand
Valley State on Thursday (Jan. 5) at 7:30 p.m.
Notes: NMU had not defeated MTU in Houghton since Dec. 4, 2000 -- a
span of seven games . . . Tech still owns wins in nine of the last
11 meetings with Northern.
