Richardson Notches Career Highs of 25 Points, 10 Rebounds and
Four Steals
HOUGHTON, Mich. -- The Michigan Tech men's basketball team used
an 8-0 run late in the second half to defeat Finlandia, 73-62, in
non-conference action this afternoon at the SDC Gym. Junior Radayl
Richardson recorded his first double-double of the season with
career highs of 25 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.
Finlandia scored seven points before the Huskies got on the board
with Richardson's layup. Richardson went on to score Tech's first
10 points for a 10-9 lead at the 12:25 mark. The Lions regained the
lead on the next trip down the floor and held it until Robby
Springborn's jumper with 4:34 to play in the half. Kelsey Fors then
cashed in on back-to-back three-pointers for a 10-point Tech
advantage with less a minute. The halftime score favored the hosts,
31-22.
The Lions made their first six shots of the second half to get back
into the game. The margin closed to 55-53 with 6:42 remaining. The
Huskies answered with an 8-0 run for a 10-point cushion at the 2:56
mark. FU's Ryan Artley trimmed the deficit to 68-62 on a layup with
31 seconds left, but Richardson scored the game's final five points
secure the Tech win.
Richardson made nine-of-16 field goals and six-of-11 free throws
for his 25 points, which beat his old career high of 21. The 6-3
guard also had a career-high four steals to go with two blocks and
his career-high tying 10 rebounds.
Six players came off the MTU bench and combined for 31 points, led
by Kyle Pullen's 10. The 6-9 center added six rebounds. Springborn
finished with eight points.
Tech caused 17 Finlandia turnovers and held a 35-31 rebounding
advantage in the contest. The visitors shot 50 percent from the
field compared to the Huskies' 48 percent.
Michigan Tech (7-8) will return to action Monday (Jan. 16) at the
SDC Gym, when it hosts Wisconsin-Superior at 7 p.m.
