Huskies Men Score 51 Second-Half Points on 73 Percent FG

HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Michigan Tech exploded for 51 second-half
points en route to a 74-47 drubbing of Wisconsin-Parkside in
non-conference men's basketball action tonight at the SDC Gym. Tim
Strom scored a game-high 18 points to help the Huskies avenge a
season-opening loss to the Rangers.
Tech held a two-point lead at the intermission before going on a
27-9 run for a 50-30 lead with 10:32 to play. The margin grew to as
many as 29 points on Kelsey Fors' second three-pointer of the night
before the final gap of 27.
The Huskies ripped the nets in the second half for 72 percent field
goal shooting and finished the game at 53 percent. MTU drained 11
three-pointers on the night including eight (on 11 tries) in the
final 20 minutes.
"The second half was the best we've played on offense all year,"
said 12th-year head coach Kevin Luke. "We were able to get into a
good flow and we shot the ball very well."
Tech led by as many as eight points (14-6) in the first half after
Strom drained his second three pointer of the game at the 12:22
mark. Parkside scored the next eight points to take a 19-16 lead
with 6:51 to go before the Huskies answered with a 7-2 run to close
the stanza on top, 23-21.
Strom had four of the team's triples to go with five rebounds.
Radayl Richardson added 11 points, five boards and three assists.
The Huskies received 32 points from its bench, led by seven from
Kyle Pullen, who also had a team-high six rebounds.
Michigan Tech has won three straight games to improve its record to
6-8 overall. The Huskies return to action Saturday (Jan. 14) when
they host Finlandia at 3 p.m.
