Biography

Dieter Kochan enters his first season as the team's volunteergoaltending coach. The Madison, Wis., native spent three seasonswith the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning, and also spent time in theMinnesota Wild and New York Islander organizations. He was a JuniorNational Champion in the British Columbia Junior League andfinalist for the Canadian Junior A Player of the Year.  Kochanwas on the 2002 Calder Cup championship team with Houston in theAmerican Hockey League. While playing for the BridgeportSoundtigers in the AHL in 2003-2004 Kochan was awarded the HarryHaps Holmes Award for lowest team goals against average.
    Kochan played at Northern Michigan from 1993– 1997 under NCAA champion Rick Comley, head coach atMichigan State. He is fourth all-time in the NMU record books inboth games played (106) and saves (2,797), and is first all-timewith five assists in a season and seven assists in a career.Professionally, Kochan played in 379 games, posting a career goalsagainst average of 2.93 and a saves percentage of 0.902.
    Kochan and his wife Staci have a son Dmitri.
