Tom Kearly begins his seventh season as head football coach atMichigan Tech in 2012 after compiling 37 wins in his first sixyears at the helm of the program. Kearly, who began his stint atTech in 2000 as associate head coach and offensive coordinator, hasbuilt the Huskies into one of the top teams perennially in theGreat Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Michigan Tech is 37-26 since Kearly took over with five winningseasons and five top-five finishes in the GLIAC. The veteranfootball coach with more than 30 years experience has helped theHuskies compile a 70-53 record since joining the staff 12 yearsago. The Huskies’ offense has flourished under hisleadership, averaging nearly 30 points per game and producing 24All-GLIAC First Team players. Michigan Tech has consistently beenranked among the top teams in the league in total offense andrushing offense.

Prior to coming to Michigan Tech, Kearly spent 19 seasons atNCAA Division I Central Michigan, including the last six asassociate head coach and last nine as offensive coordinator. Duringthat time, Kearly coached 13 All-Mid-America Conference players,two MAC most valuable players, and the school’s only NCAADivision I First Team All-American. His 1996 offense set a then-MACrecord for total offense with an average of 477 yards per game.

Kearly began his coaching career as a student assistant atWinona State in 1979. He spent the 1980 season as defensivesecondary coach at Michigan Tech before moving to CMU as a graduateassistant working with the secondary. He became a full-timeassistant coach for the Chippewas in 1983, coaching outsidelinebackers. In 1987, Kearly moved to the offensive side of theball, working with the offensive backfield. He was promoted tooffensive coordinator in 1991.

The 54-year-old Hancock, Mich., native holds a bachelor’sdegree in physical education from Winona State and a master’sin athletic administration from CMU. Kearly and his wife, Patty,have two sons, Kyle and Tanner.
