HOMECOMING FOOTBALL
• No. 25 Michigan Tech hosts Upper Iowa at Kearly Stadium on Saturday for the final non-conference game of the season.
• Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Kearly Stadium on Homecoming.
• 2026 marks the 104th season of Michigan Tech football.
• Tech is 2-1, and Upper Iowa is 1-1.
 
HOMECOMING NOTE
• It's the second straight season hosting Upper Iowa for Homecoming.
• Michigan Tech has hosted 88 Homecoming football contests since the sport's inception in 1920. During that span, Tech has compiled a 50-36-2 record (.580 winning percentage).

HUSKIES RANKED
• Michigan Tech is ranked No. 25 in this week's AFCA Coaches' Poll.
• The Huskies were No. 20 last week.
• It was the first time since Sept. 15, 2025 the Huskies were ranked in the AFCA poll.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• No. 20-ranked Tech fell 34-20 at No. 24 Emporia State on Saturday afternoon.
• The Huskies led 20-17 at halftime but were outscored by 17 in the second half.
• Abram Larner had a pair of touchdown receptions while Sam Delgado scored a rushing touchdown.
• Chase Koch led Tech's defense with nine tackles.
 
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
• Upper Iowa is 1-1 with a win over Jamestown (30-13) at home and a loss to Missouri Southern (21-19) on the road.
• Quarterback Zamar Wise is averaging 161.5 yards passing with a 52 percent passing percentage. He has thrown three touchdowns without an interception. He also leads the team in rushing, averaging 95.5 yards per game with two touchdowns. LJ Nyenow is the top receiver with eight catches for 143 yards and a score.
• Michael Mulherin leads the defense with 14 total tackles, while Jalen Hodo (12) and Daniel Robinson (10) are also in double figures.
• The offense averages 336 yards per game, and the defense is giving up 285.5 yards per game.
• The Peacocks are 31 percent on third down and 5-for-6 on the fourth down.
• This season, Upper Iowa was picked third in the GLVC Preseason Poll after going 9-3 and 6-2 in conference play in 2025.
• Jason Hoskins is in his sixth season as head coach of Upper Iowa. He was the defensive coordinator for the Peacocks from 2014-16.
 
LAST MEETING
• The Huskies suffered a 21-14 Homecoming loss to Upper Iowa on Sept. 20, 2025, at Kearly Stadium. It was their first loss of the season.
• Tech's defense recorded three turnovers and had a 7-0 lead after the first quarter, but six penalties for 70 yards and a 21-point outburst in the second quarter by Upper Iowa proved to be too much to overcome.
• Alex Bueno scored a rushing touchdown in the first quarter and threw a TD to Bryce Kurncz in the third.
• Chase Koch had a game-high 11 tackles on defense.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
• Tech has a bye next week.
• The GLIAC schedule opens on Oct. 3 at Roosevelt.
• The conference home opener is against Grand Valley State on Oct. 10.

COACH METTLACH
• Dan Mettlach is in his fourth season as head coach of the football Huskies in 2026.
• Mettlach was named the 2025 GLIAC Coach of the Year.
• He holds a 21-14 overall record.
• Mettlach was named the 17th leader of the Huskies on November 29, 2022.
• As quarterback for the Huskies from 2001-04, he was named an All-American, the 2004 GLIAC Player of the Year, and a two-time All-GLIAC selection.
 
HALL OF FAMERS
• Former football players Andy Bonk, Mike Horan, and Scott Keiser will be inducted into the Michigan Tech Sports Hall of Fame in October.
• Andy Bonk was a defensive back for the football team from 2001-04. He was a three-time All-GLIAC First Team selection and ranks 11th all-time with 268 tackles.
• Mike Horan was a four-year letterwinner on the football team from 1971-74, playing running back and defensive back. He earned All-NIC Honorable Mention honors in 1974 when the team went undefeated at 9-0 and won an NIC Championship.
• Scott Kieser was a two-sport athlete at Michigan Tech, playing quarterback for the Huskies from 1991-95 and as a guard on the men's basketball team from 1993-96. In his career, he threw for 23 touchdowns and 2,800 yards. As a senior, he had 13 touchdowns and 1,605 yards passing.
 
ELITE 100 WATCH LIST
• Senior left tackle Brandon DeVries was named to the offensive squad as part of the D2Football.com Elite 100 Watch List.
• DeVries, a two-time captain for the Huskies, has played in 32 games for his career in Black & Gold and was a First Team All-GLIAC selection last season and a Second Team All-GLIAC honoree in 2024 and 2023.
 
RETURNERS WITH 2025 HONORS
• Linebacker Chase Koch was named to the 2025 D2CCA All-Super Region 3 Second Team. Koch paced the Huskies with 105 total tackles, two interceptions, four breakups, and two quarterback hurries.
• All-GLIAC First Team: offensive lineman Brandon DeVries, wide receiver Nic Nora, defensive tackle Pierce Miller, and linebacker Chase Koch.
• All-GLIAC Honorable Mention: offensive lineman Matthew Daanen, offensive lineman Rowland Ball, kicker Avery Kucharski, and running back Jake Rueff.
