Huskies fall to No. 5 GVSU on Sunday at Kearly Stadium

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech soccer team fell 4-0 to No. 5 Grand Valley State on Sunday at a windy Kearly Stadium. The Lakers scored two goals in each half.

"We lost to a team that's going to be a national tournament team that is super dynamic and well-coached," Tech coach Mel Kuhar said. "It was a tough game, but we battled and just didn't get much going offensively. We'll use this as motivation to continue to improve. We've had some really good moments this weekend to build off of."

Lina Reas opened the scoring at 6:24 with the assist going to Sonya Mehta.

GVSU added to the lead at 30:42 when Shea Douglass found the back of the net with Madison Peot and Sarah Langley assisting.

In the second half, Vesna Dennison scored at 47:58 on a long shot with Sonya Mehta assisting.

Alex Williams finished out the scoring when she put in a rebound after a penalty kick by Vesna Dennison hit the crossbar.

GVSU led in shots 28-4 and 17-1 on goal. Bri Barrows made 12 saves for the Huskies, and Natalie Miller made a big save late in the game in relief.

Tech plays its first conference road games of the season next weekend at Parkside on Friday and Roosevelt on Sunday.
