Four Huskies earn All-GLIAC Accolades

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's basketball team saw four players earn All-GLIAC accolades, with Marcus Tomashek and Dawson Nordgaard earning First Team All-GLIAC honors as Nate Abel and Gabe Smith were tabbed to the GLIAC All-Defensive team, the league office released Friday.

Tomashek is now a three-time First Team selection, as Nordgaard earns his first First Team selection after being named to the Second Team a season ago. The GLIAC All-Defensive team selections for Abel and Smith are the first of their careers.

Tomashek, a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, was a three-time GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week selection this season. He has started in 29 games in his senior campaign, averaging 21.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 39.1 percent from the field (194-496), 37 percent from 3-point range (94-254) and 78 percent from the charity stripe (138-177). He has scored in double figures in 28 games, with eight 20-point games and six games of 30 or more points, including a season-high 39 points against Lynn on Dec. 20. Tomashek finished the regular season with a team-leading 620 points and 83 assists, while finishing third on the team in rebounds with 116. Tomashek finished second in the league with 620 points, 21.4 points per game and seventh with 83 assists.

Nordgaard, hailing from De Pere, Wisconsin, started 29 games while making 30 starts in the regular season. He finished second on the team in scoring with 290 points, for an average of 9.7 points per game while shooting a team-best 63.3 percent from the field. He added 114 rebounds (3.8 rpg), finishing fourth on the team and led the team in blocks with 28 on the season, finishing eighth in the GLIAC. Nordgaard reached double-figure scoring in 14 games, reaching his career-high of 20 points in two games.

Abel, a native of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, started all 30 games in the regular season. He finished third in the GLIAC with 213 total rebounds and second in the league with 6.13 defensive rebounds per game, while his 7.1 rebounds per game ranked fifth-best in the conference and his 40 total steals was seventh-best in the GLIAC.

Smith, hailing from St. Germain, Wisconsin, also started all 30 games in the regular season for the Huskies. He finished fifth in the GLIAC with 193 total rebounds and his 6.4 rebounds per game was eighth-best in the league. Additionally, he led the team with 56 total steals for an average of 1.87 steals per game, both of which are third-best in the GLIAC.

The Huskies, most recently the top team in the Midwest Regional Rankings, are prepped for a GLIAC Semifinal showdown with Grand Valley State, slated for a 4:30 p.m. tipoff at the Vandament Arena.
