Women’s Tennis wins fifth straight to open GLIAC play

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's tennis team opened GLIAC play with a 5-2 victory over Saginaw Valley State on Saturday at Gates Tennis Center. The Huskies have won five in a row and improved to 8-3 overall.
 
Tech took the doubles points with a pair of wins. Emily Rose and Bella Bigari won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Caoimhe McDonnell and Emily Cojocaru won 6-3 in the No. 2 position.
 
Emily Cojocaru and Emily Rose won their singles matches to go unbeaten on the day. Cojocaru won 6-2, 4-6, and 6-1 in the No. 3 position, and Emily Rose trailed 6-4 after the first set but won the second two 6-2 and 7-6 (9-7).
 
Alexandra Nikonenko won 7-5, 4-6, and 6-3 in the No. 1 singles spot, and Anamarija Ukic won 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 in the No. 6 position.
 
Tech continues GLIAC play next weekend on the road at Purdue Northwest on Friday and Roosevelt on Saturday.
