Huskies Host LSSU Thursday and SVSU Saturday for Alumni Day

HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Michigan Tech women's basketball team returns to the SDC Gymnasium this week to host Lake Superior State on Thursday (5:30 p.m.) and Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) for Alumni Day.

The Games

The Huskies are looking to complete series sweeps over the Lakers and the Cardinals. Michigan Tech earned a weekend sweep over the two teams in its first meeting on the road with a 59-40 win at Saginaw Valley State and a 68-57 decision at Lake Superior State.

About the Lakers

Lake Superior State has lost three in a row for an overall record of 5-15 and a GLIAC ledger of 2-10. The Lakers most recently dropped home games to Roosevelt (75-68) on Thursday and Parkside (62-52) Saturday.

The Lakers rank third in the GLIAC in blocks per game (3.6), free throw attempts per game (18.35) and three-point percentage defense (29.8).

Seyyane Matthew leads the league in blocks (26) with 1.30 per game, ranking second in the league. Meanwhile, Grace Bradford is tops in the GLIAC in double-doubles (8), rebounds (197) and rebounds per game (9.9) and defensive rebounds (7.7).

Bradford also leads the Lakers with 14.9 points per game, while adding 2.3 assists and tying the team high of 1.4 steals per outing. Dara Capaldi also reaches double-figure scoring with 12.2 points per game to go with 5.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals. Capaldi has a season-high of 24 points, as Bradford has recorded a 22-rebound game in the 2025-26 campaign.

Despite the three-game losing skid, the Lakers are a .500 team on the road, going 4-4 outside of the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

About the Cardinals

Saginaw Valley State is 5-15 overall and 3-9 in the loop. The Cardinals recently played to a weekend split at home falling to Parkside (75-61) Thursday before besting Roosevelt (59-50) Saturday.

The Cardinals' win over the newest Lakers snapped a seven-game losing skid, backed by the long-range shooting of Kaitlyn Geurink, who finished with a team-high 15 points, knocking down five 3-pointers while adding five boards, three assists and a block.

Lydia Meredith and Lainey Yater are the team's top-facilitators averaging four and three assists per game, respectively. Defensively, Lauren Borsenik is the anchor inside, with the second-most blocks in the GLIAC this season (25), averaging 1.25 per game. Meredith also gets involved on defense with her 3.53 steals per game ranking first in the league and eighth nationally.

She also leads the team in rebounds with 128 this season for an average of 6.7 per game.

Megan McCalla leads a trio of Cardinals averaging double-figure scoring with 13.5 points per game, joined by Meredith (11.7) and Kaitlyn Geurink (10.2).

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech is looking to turn the corner on a winless weekend, dropping road decisions to Davenport (63-51) Thursday before falling to No. 1-ranked Grand Valley State (76-62) Saturday, for an overall record of 12-8 and a GLIAC standing of 6-6.

Sophomore standout Kendall Standfest recorded a team-high 27 points on the weekend and has scored in double-figures in the last four games.

Ella Mason (14.3), Alyssa Wypych (11.1) and Soraya Timms (11.0) produce double-digit scoring to lead the Huskies. Timms adds a team-best 4.5 assists per game, ranking second in the GLIAC, as Standfest adds 5.8 rebounds.

The Black & Gold sit second in the league (and the nation) in free throw percentage (81.3) and turnovers per game (13.7) with the third-best 3-point percentage in the GLIAC (34.5).

Mason has made 47 3-pointers this season, ranking third in the GLIAC, while her 2.35 3-pointers per game is second-best in the league. Soraya Timms has netted 32 triples this season for an average of 1.60 per outing.
