Huskies wrap regular season with Parkside Thursday & Roosevelt for Senior Day Saturday

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's basketball team has two key matchups at the SDC Gymnasium to conclude the regular season, welcoming Parkside to the SDC Gymnasium on Thursday (7:30 p.m.) before facing Roosevelt for Senior Day on Saturday (12:00 p.m.).

The Games

The Huskies are looking for series sweeps against Parkside and Roosevelt after getting road wins at Roosevelt (64-48) on Dec. 4, and at Parkside (65-60) on Dec. 6.

Saturday is Vollwerth's Jersey Day

Vollwerth's is partnering with Michigan Tech Basketball this Saturday for "Jersey Day".

Fans are encouraged to wear their favorite basketball jersey (Huskies, NBA, etc.) to the SDC women's and men's double header. The first 200 fans wearing a jersey will receive a coupon for a FREE Vollwerth's hot dog at the Varsity Gym Concessions that day.

About the Rangers

Parkside enters the final week of the regular season with an overall record of 13-13 and an 8-10 GLIAC ledger. The Rangers sit sixth in the GLIAC and have played to a 5-5 record over the last 10 games.

The Rangers rank second in the GLIAC in three-point percentage defense (28.0) and blocks per game (4.1). Cassidy Arni (23) and Lexi Bugajski (20) lead the team in total blocks this season, ranking sixth and eighth in the GLIAC, respectively.

Peighton Nelson ranks first in the league in assists (124) and assists per game (4.8) while adding 8.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

Arni (13.9) and Lillie Petersen (10.5) lead the Rangers in points per game and also are the top two rebounders on the squad, with 5.1 boards by Arni and 7.7 by Petersen per outing.

UWP produces 68.7 points per game on 41.4 percent from the field with a scoring defense of 65.3 points per game.

About the Lakers

Roosevelt ranks seventh in the GLIAC with an overall standing of 8-17 and a conference ledger of 7-11. The Lakers have played to a 4-6 record in their last 10 games, most recently earning a weekend split. RU dropped a home contest to Wayne State (94-73) on Thursday before downing Purdue Northwest (87-61) on Saturday.

Marie Outlay secured her third GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honor following her weekend, where she averaged 4.5 steals, 2.5 blocks and seven rebounds per game in the split.

Outlay plays a team-best 35.6 minutes per game, producing 12.9 points, 4.3 steals and ranks sixth in the GLIAC with 6.9 rebounds per game.

Isabella Pitta ranks second in the GLIAC with 8.7 rebounds per game while adding 10.8 points and 1.3 assists per game.  

Kelly Boyle knocks down 2.1 3-pointers per game as part of her 12.2 points per game, adding a team-best 2.9 assists per outing.

Roosevelt allows 68 points per game and a field goal defense of .429 with a scoring margin of -7.9.

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech fifth in the GLIAC standings with two games to play with an overall record of 15-11 and a GLIAC ledger of 9-9. The Huskies most recently dropped contests to top-25 opponents, falling at then-No. 20 Northern Michigan (68-57) Thursday before dropping a 62-45 decision at then-No. 16 Ferris State (62-45) on Monday.

Michigan Tech resides second in the GLIAC in free throw percentage (80.2) and turnovers per game (14.1) while adding the third-best three-point percentage in the league (32.0).

Ella Mason paces the Huskies with 13.5 points per game, connecting on two 3-pointers per outing on 33.5 percent from beyond the arc.

Alyssa Wypych (11.3) and Soraya Timms (10.6) also reach double-figure scoring as Timms adds a team-best 4.2 assists per game for a total of 108 for the season, both of which rank third in the league.

Kendall Standfest adds 9.8 points and a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game and has secured a team-best four double-doubles this season.

One Last Thing

The Huskies make 6.6 3-pointers per game, which is better than Parkside (6.5) and Roosevelt (6.0). For the season, the Black & Gold are 8-3 when making more 3-pointers than their opponent.
