HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's tennis team picked up a pair of non-conference victories in Illinois over the weekend. The Huskies won 6-1 both days at Illinois Springfield on Saturday and Quincy on Sunday.
Against the Prairie Stars, the home team took the doubles point before the Huskies won all six singles matches.
Alexandra Nikonenko fell in the first set but won the second two at No. 1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Bella Bigari's No. 2 match was similar, 0-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Emily Cojocaru and
Caoimhe McDonnell both won 6-2, 6-2 in the third and fourth positions.
Emily Rose won 7-6, 6-2, and
Anamarija Ukic was victorious 2-6, 6-2, 12-10.
Emily Cojocaru and
Caoimhe McDonnell won their No. 2 doubles match 6-0.
On Sunday versus the Hawks, the Huskies took all three doubles match and five of the six singles contests.
Emily Cojocaru and
Caoimhe McDonnell finished their weekend 4-0, while
Bella Bigari and
Emily Rose also won both of their matches on Sunday.
Anamarija Ukic won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6 singles, and
Katerina Khardina teamed up with
Caoimhe McDonnell for a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
Tech heads to Orlando for Spring Break and will play six matches from March 2-6.
