HOUGHTON, Mich. – With six games to play in the regular season, the Michigan Tech women's basketball team takes to the road for four-straight GLIAC contests starting this week, at Purdue Northwest on Thursday and Wayne State on Saturday.

The Games
In the first meeting, the Huskies played to a weekend split, falling short to Wayne State (86-83) on Jan. 22, before handling Purdue Northwest (73-46) on Jan. 24.
About the Pride
Purdue Northwest has struggled this season, with an overall standing of 3-19 and a 1-13 ledger in the GLIAC, residing 11th in the league standings.
Alyssa Cole is the standout for the Pride, averaging 13.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Ciara Simms (10.6) and Riley Milausnic (10) also reaches double-figure scoring.Â
PNW shoots 30.3 percent from trey, with Cole, Cameryn Phillips and Milausnic averaging over 1.64 3-point makes per game. Phillips also records a team-leading 3.4 assists per pame.
The Pride allows 80.1 points per game and has a -11.8 rebounding margin.
About the Warriors
Wayne State, who is receiving votes in the latest WBCA poll, are 3-2 in its last five contests but earned its third GLIAC weekend sweep of the season with its most recent wins coming in Detroit, handling Davenport 67-46 on Thursday before toppling top-ranked Grand Valley State 78-77 on Saturday, handing the Lakers their first loss of the season.
For the year, the Warriors are 16-6 overall and 11-3 in league play, residing in a tie with Northern Michigan for third in the GLIAC standings.
WSU ranks first in the league in field goal percentage (45.2) and defensive rebounds (27.5) while having the 10th-best 3-point percentage in the country (36.1) backed by McKenna Ferguson, who shoots 44.4 percent from beyond the arc, which ranks fifth in the country.
Ferguson (16.1), Taylor Thompson (15.1) and Gabi Lutchka (13.6) account for 44.7 of the team's 75.5 points per game. Ferguson also excels on defense, with 58 steals this season for an average of 2.64 per game.
Thompson ranks second in the GLIAC with seven double-doubles, pacing the Warriors with 7.4 boards and 3.1 assists per game.
About the Huskies
Michigan Tech secured its third GLIAC weekend sweep of the season with wins over Lake Superior State (89-76) Thursday and Saginaw Valley State (68-67) Saturday for an overall record of 14-8 and a GLIAC standing of 8-6. The Huskies reside fourth in the GLIAC standings.
Sophomore standout Kendall Standfest earned her second GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season for her efforts in the two-win weekend.
The Elk Rapids, Michigan, native averaged a double-double for the weekend with 21 points, 11.5 rebounds, while adding 4.5 assists, 1.5 steals and a block en route to the Huskies' second GLIAC weekend sweep of the year. She also highlighted Thursday's win with career-highs in points (26), rebounds (17) and assists (7).
A trio of starters for the Black & Gold post over double-figure scoring led by Ella Mason (14.3), followed by Alyssa Wypych (11.6) and Soraya Timms (11.0). Timms also leads the team in assists, averaging 4.5 per game, as Standfest leads the way in rebounds with 6.3 per outing.
Timms ranks second in the GLIAC with her 4.4 apg, while Mason ranks third in the league with 2.27 3-pointers made per game and first in the conference with a 89.7 free throw percentage, making 61 on the season.
One Last Thing
The Huskies are 4-1 in games decided by five or fewer points, with the lone loss in a close affair coming against Wayne State (86-83) at the SDC Gymnasium.
