PEORIA, Ill. – The Michigan Tech cross country teams competed at the Bradley Pink Classic at the Newman Golf Course on Friday afternoon.
Â
In the White Race, the men's team finished second and the women's squad placed seventh. Both teams placed 15th in the Red Invitational Race.
Â
"We chose to come down to this meet because we wanted our athletes to get some experience in deep, very dense fields like what we will find in the national championship meet," Tech coachÂ
Robert Young said. "Racing in conditions like that is a different experience, and something that takes some getting used to. I didn't fully expect how closely this meet would match the national championship environment with the fast start and chaotic fans, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that. I'm confident that the lessons we learn today will help us down the road when we next find such a field.
Â
"Besides getting some good deep field experience, we also had an impressive number of personal bests. Four of those marks landed in the all-time top ten for MTU, and six were all-time freshmen list worthy. I love seeing these marks coming in and can't wait for what the rest of the fall holds."
