HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech hockey student-athletes
Kasper Vaharautio and
Jack Works have been honored as Krampade All-American Scholars announced recently by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA).
To qualify for the eighth annual award, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.75 grade-point average for each semester, and had to appear in 40 percent of the team's games. Exceptions were granted to injured players and back-up goaltenders. Schools also were required to be members of the AHCA. 713 Division I men (362) and women (351) received the recognition.
Kasper Vaharautio, a native of Vantaa, Finland, skated in all 36 games on the blue line as a junior and tallied four assists. He led the Huskies and ranked third in the CCHA and 15th in the nation with 71 blocked shots. Vaharautio has appeared in 76 NCAA games for the Black and Gold and tallied six assists. He was named a CCHA Scholar-Athlete and to the CCHA All-Academic Team and is pursuing a finance degree.
Jack Works, a native of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, began his collegiate career with the Denver Pioneers, appearing in 15 games. In his three seasons in Houghton, Works tallied 52 points with 23 goals and 29 assists. He tallied 17 points in his first season, a career-high 20 as a junior, and 15 in 2024-25. Works was named the captain of the Huskies as a senior and was a CCHA All-Academic Team member. He holds a finance degree from Tech and will finish his MBA this fall while playing pro hockey. He signed his first pro contract with Wheeling in the ECHL after the season.
