HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech tennis student-athletes
Chiara Heinz and
Landon Coates were named All-GLIAC Honorable Mention on Friday, following the opening matches of the conference tournament.
Heinz, a graduate student from Schwendi, Germany, is honored as All-GLIAC Honorable Mention for the second straight season. She was dominant in singles play all year, going 9-3 overall and 3-2 in GLIAC matches. Heinz was 8-2 in the No. 5 spot, 1-0 in No. 6, and 0-1 in No. 4. In doubles play, she was 7-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference matches, teaming up with
Emily Rose for a 6-4 overall record and
Efthymia Vasiliki Konstantatou for a pair of matches.
Coates, a sophomore from Stevensville, Mich., went 7-5 overall in singles play on the season and 2-3 in GLIAC matches. In doubles, Coates teamed up with
Vitor Jordao to go 7-6 overall and 2-3 in conference matches. The duo was 2-4 in the No. 1 spot and 5-2 in the No. 2 position.
Wayne State's Anais Ruyssen was named the GLIAC Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season. Also hailing from WSU, Cedric Drenth was named the GLIAC Athlete of the Year on the men's side.
