Huskies open GLIAC Tournament at No. 2 Grand Valley State Wednesday

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's basketball squad is set to open the GLIAC Tournament on the road as the No. 8 seed, traveling to No. 1 seed Grand Valley State, slated for a 6 p.m. tipoff in Allendale, Michigan.

About the Lakers

No. 2 Grand Valley State completed the regular season on a four-game win streak with a GLIAC-leading 19-1 ledger and an overall record of 29-2.

The Lakers are top-five nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.38), assists per game (19.5), bench points (44.6), field goal percentage (47.6), rebound margin (10.5), scoring margin (32.8), scoring offense (85.4), three-pointers per game (9.3) and turnover margin (9.87).

Rylie Bisballe, the GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year selection, averages a team-leading 13.5 points and 5.4 rebounds. MacKenzie Bisballe joins her sister with 10.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and a team-leading 1.5 blocks per outing. Abrie Cabana (9.8) Nicole Kamin (8.8) and Ellie Droste (8.8) also add notable points for the Lakers.

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech concluded the regular season with a weekend split with a win at Purdue Northwest (78-62) on Thursday before falling at Parkside (72-56) on Saturday to earn the No. 8 seed in the GLIAC Tournament. 

The Huskies played to an overall record of 12-16 and a GLIAC standing of 9-11.

Sophomore guard Alyssa Wypych recorded her first career double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, as veteran guard Isabella Lenz produced 19 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Lenz continues to pace the Huskies offense, averaging 14.2 points and 2.6 assists. First-year guard Kendall Standfest adds 11.8 points and a team-leading 7.8 rebounds.

The Lakers swept the series with a 93-52 in Allendale on Jan. 2 and a 69-51 victory at the SDC Gymnasium on Feb. 1.
