Huskies wrap regular season on the road this weekend

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's basketball team has a lot to play for in its final weekend of the regular season, traveling to Purdue Northwest on Thursday (6 p.m. EST) and Parkside on Saturday (2 p.m. EST).

All home and GLIAC games will be streamed on FloCollege. Michigan Tech fans can watch all home and conference games in volleyball, basketball, football and soccer with one subscription. About the Pride

Purdue Northwest enters the final week of the regular season with an overall record of 6-20 and a GLIAC standing of 3-15. The Pride snapped an eight-game losing skid on Saturday with a road win over Lake Superior State (77-62).

Alyssa Cole leads the Pride in points (13.6) and rebounds (7.0) per game. Nessa Walsh adds 9.3 points, 5.3 boards and a team-leading 3.9 assists in 26.3 minutes of action. Akyia Baker and Kaylen Evans add 9.7 and 9.3 points per game, respectively. 

The Pride rank third in the league with 7.2 3-pointers per game as Cherrelle Newsom makes 2.42 triples per outing, shooting 36.8 percent from beyond the arc.

About the Rangers

Parkside resides in third in the conference standings with a GLIAC ledger of 12-6 while playing to an overall record of 17-8. The Rangers saw a five-game win streak get snapped on the road last Saturday at Ferris State (85-76). Despite the recent loss, Parkside had a 79-77 defeat over then-No. 1 nationally ranked Grand Valley State a Saturday prior at the De Simone Arena, handing the Lakers its first loss since Dec. 17, 2024, when they fell at Ohio State University (82-57).

Cassidy Arni has enjoyed a sophomore campaign leading a trio of Rangers with 14.4 points a game. Chloe Van Zeeland (12.0) and Sheridan Flauger (10.7) join her in double-digit scoring, with Peigton Nelson close behind with 9.9 points per game. Flauger adds 5.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.2 steals in 32.5 minutes. Lillie Petersen is the team's leading rebounder with 7.5 boards an outing.

As a team, Parkside scores 71.1 points per game, with the second-best field goal percentage in the league, shooting 43.2 percent from the field. UWP paces the league in rebounds (41.40) and defensive rebounds per game (29.8).

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech is coming off a home and away weekend, seeing the Huskies best Northern Michigan (64-59) in the home finale on Thursday before falling in Chicago to Roosevelt (73-63) on Saturday. For the season, Michigan Tech is 11-15 with an 8-10 GLIAC standing.

Veteran guard Isabella Lenz continues to pace the offense with 14.1 points per game and 2.5 assists. Freshman Kendall Standfest produces 12.2 points, eight rebounds and 2.1 assists in 30 minutes a game. Janie Tormanen rounds out the double-figure scoring for the Huskies with 11.2 points to go with 6.3 boards per game.

Standfest earned her sixth double-double of her career with 16 points and 13 rebounds in Saturday's loss, continuing to showcase her consideration for GLIAC Freshman of the Year. She ranks second in the GLIAC with 6.6 defensive rebounds and fourth in total rebounds (194). 

Dani Nuest adds 2.8 assists and 4.5 points in 26.3 minutes per game.

One Last Thing

The Huskies rank first in the GLIAC with 14 turnovers per game and are 6-2 on the year when committing fewer turnovers than the opposition.
