Huskies Welcome Wildcats Thursday; travel to Roosevelt Saturday

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's basketball team is set for its second home and away weekend of the season, rounding out the home slate on Thursday (5:30 p.m.), welcoming Northern Michigan before heading to Chicago for a tilt against Roosevelt on Saturday (2 p.m. EST).

Thursday's game will be locally televised on FOX-UP with a broadcast team of Mark Evans (play-by-play) and Dave Ellis (color).

All home and GLIAC games will be streamed on FloCollege. Michigan Tech fans can watch all home and conference games in volleyball, basketball, football and soccer with one subscription. About the Wildcats

Northern Michigan enters the final two weeks of the regular season on a five-game winning streak as the Wildcats reside second in the league with a 12-4 conference ledger while playing to an 18-6 overall standing. More impressively, NMU pulled off the series sweep over Ferris State on Saturday, handling the Bulldogs 75-48 at the Vandament Arena.

Junior forward Alyssa Hill recorded back-to-back double-figure scoring in the weekend sweep with a notable eight-of-nine from the field for 19 points and nine rebounds in the dismantling of the Bulldogs on Saturday. Additionally, Jacy Weisbrod is back in full swing, starting the last four games for the Wildcats, averaging 14 points per game in two weeks with a 23-point outburst in her first start since Dec. 22, 2024.

Weisbrod leads the way with 13.4 points per game while holding the best 3-point percentage in the conference, shooting at 38.2 percent from deep, knocking down 2.75 triples per game, also first in the league. Alyssa Nimz records a team-leading 6.7 rebounds as the Wildcats rank 18th nationally and second in the GLIAC with 29.4 defensive rebounds per game.

About the Lakers

Roosevelt awaits the Huskies holding a three-game win streak after downing Wayne State at the Goodman Center on Monday (66-62). The Lakers are 10-12 overall and 8-8 in the GLIAC, currently residing sixth in the conference standings. 

Luka Malinka leads a trio of Lakers in double-figure scoring, residing second in the GLIAC with 15.1 points per game. Jayla Turchin (12.5) and Marie Outlay (11.8) join Malinka and are the team's top rebounders with 6.9 and 6.6 rebounds per game, respectively. The duo of Turchin and Outlay are top-10 in the conference in steals per game, as Turchin averages a league-leading 3.4 per game with 75 steals this season, as Outlay adds 2.1 per game with 47 total steals for the 2024-25 campaign.

Jalyssa Carrasco is atop the GLIAC with 4.5 assists per game, adding 4.1 points and 4.4 boards per game.

About the Huskies 

Michigan Tech is 10-14 overall and 7-9 in the GLIAC, with four games remaining in the regular season. The Huskies are 5-5 over the last 10 games and most recently snapped a four-game losing skid with a win over Lake Superior State on Senior Day Saturday. Michigan Tech currently sits at seventh in the conference standings. 

For the weekend, freshman standout Kendall Standfest averaged 17.5 points and 12.5 rebounds to go with four blocks and three assists. She broke the program record for best field goal percentage in Saturday's win, going nine-of-nine from the field in a game where she scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed 10 boards to secure her fourth double-double of the year, also recording one on Thursday with 13 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. For the season, the Elk Rapids, Michigan, native averages 11.9 points and 7.8 rebounds, which rank best for a freshman in the GLIAC, putting her well in contention for GLIAC Freshman of the Year.

Veteran guard Isabella Lenz had a notable game in Thursday's loss with 22 points on eight-of-13 shooting with a new career-high nine rebounds playing the entire game. Lenz leads the team with 13.9 points as sophomore Dani Nuest dishes out 2.9 assists per game.

One Last Thing

The Huskies average 66.8 points per game, but are 9-1 on the season when scoring 70 or more points.
