HOUGHTON, Mich. – After winning four-straight games in December, the Michigan Tech women's basketball team is back to GLIAC play, hosting No. 1 Grand Valley State on Firday (1:00 p.m.) before facing Davenport on Saturday, slated for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.

About the Lakers
Grand Valley State, the No. 1 nationally-ranked team in the country, takes to the road with a 10-0 overall standing while going 2-0 to open league play. The Lakers haven't allowed more than 46 points in four games, while scoring no less than 89 points.
For the season, GVSU is producing 83 points, while holding opponents to 47.7 points, for a scoring margin of 35.3–both rank first in the country. The offense is spread evenly amongst the team, with Mackenzie Bisballe leading three players in double-digit scoring with 14.2 points per game. She also leads the team in rebounds (5.5) and blocks (1.0)
Nicole Kamin paces the offense with 3.4 assists per game to go with 6.9 points. Paige Vanstee holds team-highs of 26 points 12 rebounds and nine steals.
The Lakers are aggressive to the ball with the third-best offensive rebounds per game (18.7), forcing 28.1 turnovers per game, ranking seventh nationally and adding 16 steals per outing, good for 10th-best in the country.
GVSU was predicted to win the league under the guidance of Mike Williams in his 11th season at the helm.
About the Panthers
Davenport returns to GLIAC play after playing to a 3-7 overall record and a 1-1 standing in the league to end 2025. The Panthers most recently dropped a contest to then-No. 13 nationally-ranked Embry-Riddle (70-57) on Dec. 19.
Maddie Geers has scored in double-figures six times this season with a team-high 22 points in the season opener, averaging 12 points, 5.4 boards and a block per game. Ellie Toney adds a team-leasing 5.9 rebounds to go with 10.7 points, a steal and an assist in 28.9 minutes per game.
The Panthers have the second-best 3-point percentage defense, holding opponents to 24.1 percent and average 3.7 blocks per game.
Shonda Sanders returns for her fourth year at the helm of the Panthers, who were predicted to finish ninth in the preseason poll.
About the Huskies
Michigan Tech has won four-straight games to conclude the 2025 portion of the schedule for an 8-2 overall standing and a 2-0 record in the loop.
The Huskies most recently enjoyed a thrilling 89-87 victory over Northwood at the SDC Gymnasium on Dec. 19, highlighted by a career-high 25 points by sophomore Ella Mason on 9-17 from the field.
In total, the Huskies' entire starting five reached double-digit scoring, making up 82 of the team's total points. Alyssa Wypych scored 16 points on 4-5 from the field, a perfect 3-3 from deep and 5-6 from the charity stripe to go with six rebounds, tying the team-high with Soraya Timms, who also added a team-leading seven dimes and two steals.
The win also marked the 130th career win for head coach Sam Clayton in her eighth year at her alma mater.
The Black & Gold currently rank fifth in the nation in turnovers per game (12.5), while having the sixth-best free throw percentage (80.7) nationally and a top-20 ranking in three-point percentage (36.2%).
