About the Lakers

Roosevelt enters its second-year as an NCAA Division II member in the GLIAC, playing to a 1-3 record in non-conference play while also having a contest canceled against Trinity Christian and an exhibition win at Western Michigan (82-70) in overtime on Tuesday.

The Lakers are 1-1 in one-possession games, falling to UMSL 54-52 in the season opener, with the lone win coming at Walsh (61-60) on Nov. 22. Roosevelt is 0-2 at home in the early season.

Center Isabella Pitta and guards Kelly Boyle and Marie Outlay pace the offense. Pitta leads the team with 13 points per game as Boyle adds 10.3 while shooting 41.7 percent from 3-point land. Outlay and Outta have each recorded a 20-point game this season. Outlay has also proven to be a threat from beyond the arc, knocking down five 3-pointers in the win over Walsh. She also leads the team with 4.3 steals and 7.5 rebounds per game.

Deon Thomas is in his fourth season at the helm of the Lakers, who were selected to finish eighth in the GLIAC.

About the Rangers

Parkside heads into the first weekend of GLIAC play following a 4-3 start in non-conference play. The Rangers went 2-1 in the CCA Division II Canadian Tip-Off Classic against GNAC opponents to open the season before playing to a 2-2 record, most recently splitting a week of games with a win at Lewis (55-50) on Tuesday before falling to No. 5 Minnesota State (85-73) on Saturday.

The Rangers' defense is among the best in the league, pacing the GLIAC in blocks per game (5.3) while ranking second in the league in field goal percentage defense (36.8 percent), defensive rebounds (27.6) and the third-best scoring defense (60.6).

Offensively, three Rangers average double-figure scoring, led by Katie Hamill with 15.9 points and a team-high 2.4 steals. Cassidy Arni posts 133 points and 5.9 rebounds as Lillie Peterson adds 11.4 points and a team-leading 7.4 boards.

Jen Conley enters her 8th season leading the Rangers, who were tabbed to finish fourth in the GLIAC preseason coaches' poll.

About the Huskies

After starting the season with two wins over GLVC teams and two wins over NSIC foes, Michigan Tech dropped two games last week, falling at No. 17 Concordia-St. Paul (78-61) on Friday before a 78-54 loss at Winona State on Saturday for an overall 4-2 standing.

The Huskies rank third in the GLIAC in field goal percentage (42.4), free throws made per game (12.83) and 3-point percentage (33.3) while ranking second in the GLIAC and ninth in the country with 12.3 turnovers per game.

The Black & Gold's starting five are the top-scorers with sophomore guard Ella Mason leading the way with 12.5 points, junior guard Alyssa Wypych is close behind with 11.3 points and ties the team-high of 5.7 rebounds with Janie Tormanen and Kendall Standfest. Tormanen has four games of double-figure scoring with an average of 10 points per game as Standfest contributes eight points. Soraya Timms nets 10.8 points and a team-high 2.3 assists, shooting 45.5 percent from the field and a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line.

The Huskies have controlled the glass, averaging 35.3 rebounds with a margin of 1.8 boards per outing. Additionally, MTU is 3-0 when out rebounding the opponent.

The opening conference weekend will be a good tone-setter for the Huskies, who went 0-4 against Roosevelt and Parkside a season ago.
