About the Timberwolves
Northwood travels to the UP for two games, facing No. 14Â nationally-ranked Northern Michigan on Wednesday before facing Michigan Tech. The Timberwolves have won four-straight games, all coming in conference play, for an overall record of 8-2. Northwood has been a tough team to host, as they hold a 5-1 record on the road this season.
The Timberwolves' lone losses have come against ranked GLIAC foes, losing in OT to then-No. 24 Ferris State (88-84) on Nov. 19 before falling to No. 1 Grand Valley State (81-56) on Nov. 30.
Northwood ranks first in the GMAC in field goal percentage (44.3%), fouls per game (12.8), free-throw percentage (79.4) and free throws made per game (13.67) while ranking second in the league in scoring offense (75.4) and turnovers per game (16.0).
The duo of Lea Holmes (19.9) and Maeve St. John (18.9) produces double-figure scoring, with Holmes scoring 20 or more points a game five times, with a season-high of 26 points in the first game of the season and their most recent game. Holmes also adds a team-leading 8.3 rebounds and two blocks per game while shooting 62.4 percent from the field, ranking sixth in the country.
Meanwhile, St. John has two games of 32 points this season in wins over Lewis and Ashland. She also paces the team with 31.60 minutes per game, 4.2 assists, 3.11 steals per game, while shooting 93 percent from the free throw line, going 53-of-57 from the charity stripe.
Autumn Hunter is in her fifth season at the helm of the Timberwolves, who were tabbed to finish third in the GMAC.
About the Huskies
Michigan Tech is off to its best start since the 2022-23 season, with a 7-2 overall record and a 2-0 start to league play while riding a three-game win streak. The Huskies most recently downed a stout Missouri-St. Louis team 68-62 to hand the Tritons their second loss of the season on Saturday.
The Huskies forced 18 turnovers in the win and saw Ella Mason (18), Janie Tormanen (12) and Soraya Timms (10) finish with double-digit scores as Timms added four assists while Kaitlyn Maxwell recorded a timely eight points off the bench in seven minutes.
Michigan Tech ranks top-10 in the country in turnovers per game (12.1) and free-throw percentage (80.3) residing fourth and ninth, respectively.
Mason and Tormanen have scored in double-figures six times this season and lead the team in scoring with 13.8 and 10.7 points, respectively. Timms adds 10.1 points and a team-high 3.8 assists and a 1.7 assist/turnover ratio.
Kendall Standfest pulls down a team-leading 6.4 boards to go with 8.7 points per game as Alyssa Wypych adds 8.9 points per outing to go with 5.2 rebounds and a team-best 1.1 steals per game.
One Last Thing
Saturday's win at Missouri-St. Louis marked the 900th program win in its 50th year of existence. Moreso, a win against Northwood on Friday evening would mark the 130th career win for head coach Sam Clayton in her eighth year at the helm of her alma mater.
