PREVIEW: Huskies battle Wildcats this weekend

RIVALRY WEEKEND
• Michigan Tech gets back to CCHA action this weekend against Northern Michigan.
• Friday's game at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena starts at 7:07 p.m.
• The teams will wrap up the series at the Berry Events Center at 6:07 p.m. on Saturday.
• The Huskies are 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the CCHA.
• NMU is 0-10 overall and 0-2 in the CCHA with 4-of-5 opponents ranked in the top 20.
 
FRIDAY PROMOTIONS
• Free Stormy Kromer drink sleeves at the door for the first 100.
• United Dairy Industry of Michigan will be tossing 50 cartons of chocolate milk to the student section.
• Milk Means More Trivia on the videoboard for a chance to win a Free Ice Cream Sandwich at the game.

• Mix 93.5 FM WKMJ broadcasts all Michigan Tech hockey games.

TV6 & FOX-UP COVERAGE
• Both games will be televised locally on FOX-UP.
• Mark Evans and Dave Ellis will call all the action.
• TV6 and FOX-UP began broadcasting the Tech versus NMU rivalry during the 2013-14 season.
 
WATCH THE GAMES
• All Michigan Tech home and CCHA games during the 2025-26 season will be live-streamed on Midco Sports Plus 2.
• Fans can stream all CCHA games live and on-demand, on their home televisions, computers, tablets, and mobile devices via Midco Sports Plus.

CCHA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
• Teydon Trembecky is the CCHA Rookie of the Week after he tallied three points in Tech's non-conference split on the road. He scored twice on Friday at Clarkson, finding the back of the net in the second period and again in the third on the power play.
• Trembecky added the primary assist on Isaac Gordon's game-winner on Saturday at St. Lawrence.
 
CCHA ROOKIE OF THE MONTH
• Teydon Trembecky scored five goals and added five assists in his first month of college hockey. He had three power-play goals, 23 shots on goal, and seven blocked shots.
• Trembecky leads the Huskies with five goals and ranks second on the team with 10 points. He leads CCHA rookies in goals and ranks third amongst all NCAA newcomers. His 10 points also lead CCHA rookies and ranks fifth nationally.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
• NMU is 0-10-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the CCHA. The Wildcats have played No. 15 Massachusetts, No. 16 Ohio State, No. 19 Colorado College, No. 1 Michigan State, and Augustana.
• Dave Shyiak is in his second season as head coach. He played for NMU from 1987-91 and was the captain of the 1991 National Championship Team. Shyiak was the head coach of Alaska Anchorage from 2005-13.
• Tobias Pitka leads the team with 5 points and Caiden Gault leads with 4 goals.
• Goaltenders William Gramme and Oliver Auyeung-Ashton have split time between the pipes and both have save percentages over .920.
 
SERIES INFO
• Tech is 87-81-15 against the Wildcats, dating back to 1979.
• The Huskies are 45-34-9 at home and 36-46-6 in Marquette.
• Tech has won five straight and is unbeaten in the last six matchups.
• Last season, the Huskies went 5-0 with a pair of shutouts in Marquette and an overtime win in the GLI Third Place Game.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• The Huskies split their non-conference trip to New York, falling 6-4 to Clarkson on Friday and shutting out St. Lawrence 3-0 on Saturday.
• Teydon Trembecky had a pair of goals Friday while Max Koskipirtti, Isaac Gordon, Elias Jansson, Kalem Parker, and Brayden Boehm also found the back of the net.
• Owen Bartoszkiewicz made 54 saves on the weekend and earned his third career shutout Saturday.

• 24 percent of Finlanders in college hockey are on Michigan Tech's roster (6-of-25).
• Seven of the 76 players in college hockey who played in the WHL are on Michigan Tech's roster.
• Coach Muckalt is one of six NCAA head coaches with NHL playing experience.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
• Bemidji State travels to Houghton for a CCHA series next weekend on Nov. 14-15.
• Tech travels to Mankato to play Minnesota State the following weekend (Nov. 21-22).
• November wraps up with a home CCHA series against St. Thomas on Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 28-29).
 
COACH MUCKALT
• Bill Muckalt was named the 23rd head coach at Michigan Tech on May 22, 2025.
• Muckalt returned to Houghton after one season as head coach of Lindenwood.
• Muckalt was an assistant coach at Tech for four seasons from 2011-15.
• Muckalt played 256 NHL games over five seasons with Vancouver, New York Islanders, Ottawa, and Minnesota. He scored 97 career points with 40 goals and 57 assists.
• He won two National Championships as a player at Michigan in 1996 and 1998 and was an All-American in 1998.
 
NON-CONFERENCE
• The Huskies have 10 non-conference games scheduled for the season.
• Tech split at No. 8 Minnesota on Oct. 3-4.
• The Huskies also split at Alaska on Oct. 17-18.
• Tech travels fell 6-4 at Clarkson on Oct. 31.
• The trip to New York wrapped up with a 3-0 shutout at St. Lawrence on Nov. 1.
• Tech opens the GLI against Miami with Michigan State and Ferris State playing in the second semifinal.
• Non-conference play wraps up at the Desert Hockey Class against Air Force in the semifinal and Alaska Anchorage or host Arizona State on the second day.

CAPTAINS
• Junior Isaac Gordon is the captain of the 2025-26 Huskies.
• Junior Max Koskipirtti and seniors Jack Anderson and Joe Prouty are also on the leadership team as alternate captains.
 
PRESEASON ALL-CCHA
• Senior forward Stiven Sardarian was named to both the coaches and media's Preseason All-CCHA Team.
• Junior forward Isaac Gordon was named to the coaches Preseason All-CCHA Team.
 
ASSISTANT COACHES
• Benton Maass begins his first season as an Assistant Coach. Maass comes to Houghton after one season as an Assistant Coach at Lindenwood. As a defenseman, he played collegiately at New Hampshire and Minnesota State and appeared in 122 professional games in the AHL and ECHL.
• L.J. Scarpace begins his first season as an Assistant Coach. Scarpace comes to Houghton after serving as a video coach in the NHL since 2017. He most recently worked with Detroit for the past six seasons. As a goaltender, he played collegiately at Western Michigan and Michigan.
• Former Michigan Tech hockey player Tyler Shelast begins his fifth season as an assistant coach. Before being named an assistant coach, Shelast spent the previous eight seasons as the strength and conditioning coach for the Huskies.
 
PRESEASON CCHA COACHES POLL
• Tech was picked in a tie for third in the Preseason CCHA Coaches' Poll with Augustana. The Huskies earned a pair of first-place votes.
• St. Thomas and Minnesota State were the top two choices, with Bowling Green, Bemidji State, Lake Superior State, Ferris State, and Northern Michigan rounding out the poll.
 
PRESEASON CCHA MEDIA POLL
• Tech was picked fourth in the Preseason CCHA Media Poll behind Minnesota State, St. Thomas, and Bowling Green.
• Augustana, Bemidji State, Ferris State, Lake Superior State, and Northern Michigan rounded out the poll.

NHL DRAFT PICKS
• Carson Latimer was selected by Ottawa in the fourth round of the 2021 NHL Draft with the 123rd pick. He is now a free agent.
• Kalem Parker was selected by Minnesota in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL Draft with the 181st pick. He is now a free agent.
• Stiven Sardarian was selected by Buffalo in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft with the 88th pick. He is now a free agent.
 
TRANSFERS
• Jack Anderson played three seasons and 90 games at Lindenwood (2022-25). He tallied 25 points with the Lions on four goals and 21 assists.
• Owen Baker played seven games in one season at Michigan State (2023-24). He notched two points with a goal and an assist.
• Owen Bartoszkiewicz played at Lindenwood in 2024-25, with a .919 save percentage and 2.57 goals-against average in 29 games. He played six games for Minnesota during the 2022-23 season with a 3.72 goals-against average and .883 save percentage.
• Joe Prouty played three seasons and 90 games at Lindenwood (2022-25). He tallied 21 points with the Lions with three goals and 18 assists.
• Stiven Sardarian played the two seasons for New Hampshire (2022-24). In 61 NCAA games for the Wildcats, he tallied nine goals and 12 assists
