HOUGHTON, Mich. – Following a 2-0 start to the season on the road, the Michigan Tech women's basketball team is set for its home-opening weekend welcoming NSIC foes Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. The Huskies face UMD on Thursday and SCSU on Friday, both games are slated for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.

About Minnesota Duluth
Minnesota Duluth opened the season with a split at the GAC/NSIC Challenge over the weekend. The Bulldogs fell in their season-opening game against Northwestern Oklahoma State (67-57) before completing the weekend with an 81-63 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday.
UMD is shooting 40 percent from the field while connecting from 3-point land eight times a game for an average of 69 points.
Claire Bjorge leads her team in points (14) and steals (4) per game, shooting 63.2 percent from the field and 40 percent from deep. Myra Moorjani (.95) and Kexi Karge (8.5) are close behind in scoring average. Karly Usczak posts a team-high five rebounds in 13.5 minutes off the bench.
Despite losing the rebounding battle 37.5 to 35 in the opening weekend, the Bulldogs are corralling 15.7 offensive boards per game.
The Bulldogs are coached by Mandy Pearson in her 11th season at the helm. Minnesota Duluth was predicted to finish third in the NSIC North Division.
About St. Cloud State
St. Cloud State began the 2025-26 campaign with two wins in Edmond, Oklahoma, at the Central Region Challenge. The Huskies bested Washburn (RV) 73-61 on Friday before narrowly overcoming Central Oklahoma 61-59 on Saturday.
The guard play of Jada Eggebrecht and Alana Zarneke was critical in the opening weekend as the duo averaged 17.5 and 15.5 points per game, respectively, to boost the Huskies to a 2-0 start to the season.
Zarneke is also a problem for opponents on defense, averaging a team-high 3.5 steals and 1.5 blocks. Sophomore guard Kristi Kottke averages a team-leading six boards for the Huskies, as CJ Adamson is the top facilitator with four assists a game. Â
St. Cloud State was tabbed to finish fourth in the NSIC South Division under the guidance of Lori Fish in her 18th season as head coach.
About Michigan Tech
Michigan Tech opened the season over the weekend, going 2-0 at the D2 Midwest Region Tip-Off hosted at the JustAGame Fieldhouse in the Wisconsin Dells. The Black & Gold opened the season with a 68-55 victory over Lewis Friday before pummeling Upper Iowa 70-30 on Saturday for the weekend sweep.
The highlight of the weekend was veteran point guard Soraya Timms making her first appearance for the Huskies since Feb. 18, 2023. She led the way for the Huskies in the win over Lewis with team-highs in points (17) and assists (4) while adding four rebounds.
The pinnacle of Saturday's win was the Black & Gold holding Upper Iowa to just 30 points, holding the opposition to just 20 percent from the field and 13 percent from three. The Huskies' lock-down defense sees them rank ninth in the country in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 27.4 percent shooting and the fourth-best scoring defense nationally (42.5 points per game).
Janie Tormanen shot seven-of-nine from the field to lead the Huskies with 16 points, adding six boards. Kaitlyn Maxwell scored a career-high in a Michigan Tech uniform with 14 points on five-of-six shooting as sophomore Kendall Standfest added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Tormanen (14.5), Alyssa Wypych (10.0) and Maxwell (10.5) are the team's top scorers. Sophomores Kloe Zentkowski (8) and Standfest (7.5) lead the Huskies in rebounding, with Zentkowski recording a career-high 11 boards against Upper Iowa.
