HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech men's basketball senior guard Marcus Tomashek has been tabbed the GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, the league office announced Wednesday. In the same release, Tomashek was named preseason All-GLIAC First Team, as Dawson Nordgaard was tabbed to the preseason All-GLIAC Second Team.
The last time the Huskies were predicted to win the league and had the GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year was in 2014, with Ben Stelzer being tabbed the league's Preseason POTY.
Tomashek, a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, is coming off a junior campaign that saw him earn All-American honors while also being the Midwest Region Player of the Year and GLIAC Player of the Year. He finished the season averaging 23.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, finishing the season with the fourth-most points for a season in program history with 720 points. The guard scored over 30 points in a game nine times last season, with his career-high being a 45-point outburst at Ferris State.
Nordgaard, hailing from De Pere, Wisconsin, was a Second Team All-GLIAC performer a season ago, averaging 8.7 points and 3.5 rebounds, starting all 32 games for the Huskies. He scored in double-figures 17 times with a season-high of 17 points.
The Huskies open the 2025-26 campaign this weekend, partaking in the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic. No. 13 nationally-ranked Michigan Tech will face No. 3 Dallas Baptist on Saturday and No. 19 Lenoir-Rhyne on Sunday. Both games are slated for a 3:30 p.m. tipoff.
