Huskies host Cardinals & Bulldogs this weekend

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Huskies conclude a four-game home stand this weekend, welcoming Saginaw Valley State on Friday (6:00 p.m.) and Ferris State Sunday (12:00 p.m.).

All home and GLIAC games will be streamed on FloCollege. Michigan Tech fans can watch all home and conference games in volleyball, basketball, football and soccer with one subscription. The Series

Michigan Tech holds a 12-9-2 overall series lead over Saginaw Valley State with a 6-4-1 record at home, despite the last win against the Cardinals coming on Oct. 31, 2021. The Black & Gold are 8-14 overall against Ferris State and 6-7 at Kearly Stadium against the Bulldogs.

About the Cardinals

Saginaw Valley State has played to a 3-3-1 overall record while going 1-2 in GLIAC play, most recently falling 3-1 at Parkside on Friday.

The Cardinals have won three of their last five games and are 2-1-1 on the road. The lone GLIAC win came against Davenport (2-1) on Sept. 21.

SVSU ranks second in the league in corner kicks per game (5), scoring offense (1.75) and total goals (14). Senior Madi Bajis ranks first in the GLIAC with four goals, as sophomore Emily Kolodin (3) and sophomore Emma Bradley (2) have also recorded multiple goals this season. Kolodin and freshman Abby Ellis lead the team with two assists. 

Senior Lainey Garbarz ranks second in the GLIAC with 38 total saves and third in the league in saves per game (4.75).

Tyler Channell returns for his fourth season at the helm of the Cardinals, who were predicted to finish second in the GLIAC preseason coaches' poll. 

About the Bulldogs

Ferris State is 2-1-4 overall with a 2-0-1 ledger in the GLIAC. The Bulldogs haven't had a loss since the season-opener at Cedarville on Sep. 4.

FSU has scored six goals in seven games, with Katherine Welch and Grace Sampson leading the team with two goals, respectively. Welch also has a team-leading two assists and 11 shots on goal. 

Sophomore Korinne Ihrke has started all seven games in net for the Bulldogs with five goals against, a save percentage of .828 with 24 saves and three shutouts.

Greg Henson is in his sixth season leading the Bulldogs, who were tabbed to finish third in the league coaches' poll.

About the Huskies 

Michigan Tech is looking to bounce back from the GLIAC home-opening weekend, where they fell 3-1 to Davenport Friday and 4-0 against No. 3 Grand Valley State on Sunday. The Huskies are 1-6-1 and 1-2-1 in the GLIAC.

Bella Vasoli recorded her first goal of the season, with veteran defender Olivia Gette earning an assist in Friday's game against the Panthers.

Ludesha Reynolds earned the first start in net this season in Sunday's game, facing a season-high 34 shots, making nine saves. 

Bri Barrows continues to lead the league with 39 saves as Reynolds ranks sixth in the GLIAC with 22. Barrows is averaging 5.57 saves per game.

Freshman Peyton Wetzel leads the team with three goals and six points, with Kenzie Dollison, Allison Millina and Vasoli each recording a goal.
