HOUGHTON, Mich. – For the first time in a long time, the Michigan Tech women's basketball team will have a road and home GLIAC game this weekend, traveling to Northern Michigan on Thursday (5:30 p.m.) before hosting first-year GLIAC affiliate Roosevelt at the SDC Gymnasium on Saturday (Noon).
Thursday's game will be locally televised on FOX-UP with a broadcast team of Mark Evans (play-by-play) and Dave Ellis (color).Â

About the Wildcats
Northern Michigan welcomes Michigan Tech to the Vandament Arena and enters the week 9-3 overall with a 3-1 ledger in the GLIAC. The Wildcats most recently earned a weekend split in the first GLIAC weekend of the New Year, dropping Davenport (47-40) in its first game in 10 days before ultimately falling to top-ranked Grand Valley State (81-71) in Allendale on Saturday.
Northern Michigan started the season on an 8-0 run and have recently received national recognition, checking in at No. 24 in the latest D2CSC Top-25 poll.Â
The Wildcats take care of the little things with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.10 (24th nationally) while also causing 14.3 fouls per game (25th nationally), ranking first in the league. Their 12.8 turnovers per game are first in the league and 11th in Division II. Sarah Newcomer is second in the league with a 1.85 assist-to-turnover ratio with a team-high 3.1 assists per game.Â
Junior guard Jacy Weisbrod is the team's leading scorer, averaging 15.5 points per outing with four games over 20 points this season, including two 27-point outings. Newcomer (9.4), Alyssa Nimz (8.9) and Alyssa Hill (7.8) are also key contributors on offense for NMU.
Weisbrod can light it up from 3-point land, averaging 3.2 3-pointers per game at a clip of .364 with 32 triples made this season, ranking first in the GLIAC.
Nimz and Hill are the top rebounders for the Wildcats, averaging 7.7 and 6.3 rebounds a game, respectively.Â
About the Lakers
Roosevelt, the newest addition to the GLIAC, is 3-7 overall with a 1-3 ledger in the GLIAC. The Rangers most recently secured its first GLIAC win, besting Purdue Northwest (100-69) at the Goodman Center on Thursday (Jan. 2) before dropping a Monday showdown at Parkside (72-46).
The Lakers allow the most points per game in the league (72.4) while putting up 59.3 points a game, with senior guard Malinka Luka (12.6) and sophomore guard Marie Outlay (11.9) averaging double-figure scoring. Luka has scored over 20 points in three games, with a season-high of 25 points against McKendree.Â
Veteran forward Jayla Turchin is dynamic for the Lakers, averaging 9.6 points, a team-leading 7.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals. Kaylssa Carrasco is the team's top facilitator, with 3.4 assists per outing while adding 4.2 rebounds and 4.4 points.
Turchin earned the team's first GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week 4.
Roosevelt was predicted to finish 10th in the Preseason Coaches Poll under head coach Deon Thomas, entering his third year at the helm of the Lakers.
About the Huskies
Michigan Tech completed its first GLIAC weekend of the New Year with a split, falling to No. 1 nationally-ranked Grand Valley State (93-52) on Thursday before coming away victorious at Davenport (68-60) on Saturday. The Huskies are 5-7 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Veteran guard Isabella Lenz logs the most minutes per game in the league (34.82) while leading the Huskies in scoring with 15.8 points per outing, scoring in double-figures in all 12 games this season with two games over 20 points. The Prescott, Wisconsin, native has hit 22 3-pointers this season as the Huskies rank second in the league with a 3-point shooting percentage of 34.5.Â
First-year guard Kendall Standfest continues her impressive freshman campaign with 11.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per outing for the Black & Gold. She's recorded a team-leading three double-doubles. The Elk Rapids, Michigan, native recorded a career-high 13 rebounds in the win over Davenport.Â
Graduate Transfer Janie Tormanen joins the aforementioned duo in double-figure scoring with 10.8 points to go with 6.4 boards.Â
One Last Thing
Michigan Tech is one of the top free-throw shooting teams in the land, ranking 19th nationally and first in the league with a 78 percent free-throw percentage led by Lenz, who's made a team-leading 37 free-throws at a clip of .881. The Huskies are 3-0 when shooting more free throws than the opposition this season.
