Huskies start second-half of league play at home Thursday and Saturday

HOUGHTON, Mich. – In a three-way tie atop the GLIAC standings at the halfway point, the Michigan Tech men's basketball team is set to host Davenport at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday before welcoming Grand Valley State to the SDC Gymnasium for Alumni Day Saturday, slated for a 2 p.m. tipoff.

All home and GLIAC games will be streamed on FloCollege. Michigan Tech fans can watch all home and conference games in volleyball, basketball, football and soccer with one subscription. About the Panthers

Davenport is in a tie for last in the league with a 1-9 record, with the lone win coming against the Huskies in Grand Rapids. For the season, the Panthers are 5-13.

The Panthers are second-best in the GLIAC in 3-point defense (31.3%) while allowing 70.1 points per game. 

Offensively, DU scores 67.3 points per outing, led by Javon Tucker's 15.6 points a game. He has the third-best field goal percentage in the GLIAC (49.5%) while also having the greenlight from long range, pouring in 2.06 3-pointers a game.

Joey Cabana (11.0) and Matyas Vrabel (10.2) also average double-figure scoring for the Panthers. 

Vrabel is Davenport's top rebounder, with 7.1 boards per game. 

About the Lakers

The Lakers enter the halfway mark in conference play on a four-game winning streak with a GLIAC standing of 6-4 for the fifth spot. Overall, GVSU is 10-8 this season. 

The Lakers have the second-best bench in the league, seeing 31 points coming from the reserves. As a team, GVSU scores 75.4 points per game, led by Kaden Brown (13.5 points). William Dunn (12.0 points) and Jalen Charity (10.7 points) also average double-figure scoring. Brown also leads the way with 2.61 3-pointers per game for a season total of 47 triples. 

Mason Docks ranks second in the GLIAC with 4.1 assists per game, while Shamus Thompson adds a team-leading 4.8 boards per outing. 

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech sits in a three-way tie with No. 11 Lake Superior State and No. 15 Ferris State with a GLIAC ledger of 8-2, overall the Huskies are 13-5 this season and are receiving votes in this week's NABC top-25 poll. 

The Huskies most recently earned a road weekend split capped with an impressive overtime win over then-No. 8 Ferris State, where the GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year, Marcus Tomashek, dropped a new career-high 45 points. 

As a team, the Black and Gold have a top-15 field goal percentage nationally (50.0%), which leads the league. Tomashek ranks first in the GLIAC in points per game (25.2), points (428), free-throws (101), free-throw attempts (144), field goals (139) and field goal attempts (303). The Huskies also rank top-20 in the country in 3-pointers per game (10.3) with a 3-point percentage of 39.9 percent, which is first in the GLIAC and sixth in the country. Tomashek hits 2.88 triples per game to lead the team.

Pete Calcaterra (9.7 points) and Dawson Nordgaard (9.6 points) chip in over nine points per game as Calcaterra leads the way on the glass with 4.9 rebounds per game.

The Huskies bested Grand Valley State on the road earlier this season and have a chance at the series sweep on Saturday.
