LAS VEGAS – Michigan Tech defenseman
Chase Pietila was selected with the 111th overall selection in the fourth round of the 2024 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Pietila will enter his second season with the Huskies in 2024-25 after appearing in all 40 games as a freshman.
Pietila is the 85th Michigan Tech player to be drafted in program history and the first since Matt Roy in 2015 to be drafted after suiting up a season for the Huskies.
Pietila, a native of Howell, Michigan, led the team with 19 assists while scoring three goals. He ranked fourth in the CCHA and eighth nationally amongst freshmen defensemen in assists. He also led the league and NCAA freshmen in penalty minutes (60).
Pietila, a 6-foot-3, 188-pound defenseman, played 175 games in the USHL for three seasons before coming to Tech. He was an alternate captain on Youngstown Phantom's Clark Cup Championship team in 2022-23. He played two seasons with Youngstown and one with Lincoln.
