Michigan Tech to compete at NCAA Midwest Regional Saturday

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet Saturday, returning to the Lewis Cross Country Course in Romeoville, Illinois.

The men bump up in distance, trekking the 10k course at 11 a.m., with the women to follow in the 6k at 12:15 p.m. Live results and a live stream of the event can be found at Michigantechhuskies.com/live

About the Meet

The Midwest region showcases three conferences: the GLIAC, GLVC and G-MAC with the top three teams earning automatic qualifiers to the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Sacramento, California, on Saturday, Nov. 23. The top two individuals from non-qualifying teams qualify automatically, as does any individual from a non-qualifying team who finishes in the top-five overall. Eight more selections nationally are also made. Ten at-large teams will be selected by the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Cross Country Committee.

The No. 26 nationally-ranked men of Michigan Tech enter the regional meet week ranked fifth in the Midwest behind frontrunners, Grand Valley State, Lewis, Saginaw Valley State and Hillsdale. The women were ranked as high as ninth in the region in the first week of rankings and earned the 10th spot in week five before dropping outside of the top 10 last week.

For the men, seniors Sam Lange and Tucker Ringhand will join juniors Callen Carrier, Michael Dennis and Michael Marshall and sophomores Colman Lenci and Zeb Swager in the Huskies lineup.

The women will see senior Cedar Gordon join juniors Ingrid Halverson and Claire Endres plus sophomores Bridget Burns and Sophia Rhein and first-years Erica Kazin and Alex Li on the starting line Saturday.

Sawyer Fowler and Hannah Kilpatrick will also be making the trip serving as alternates.

Veteran Sam Lange has earned All-Region accolades in the previous two regional meets, with a 21st-place finish in 2023 and a 15th-place finish in 2022. Tucker Ringhand will look to improve on his 34th-place finish at the regional meet in 2022. Sophia Rhein is the top returner, placing 60th in her freshman campaign.
