About the Beavers

Bemidji State opens its season this weekend and was tabbed to finish 15th in the NSIC Preseason Poll, with senior Erin Barrette tabbed player to watch in the same release.

Making 26 starts a season ago, Barrette scored 119 points, 57 assists and 51 rebounds in 628 minutes for the Beavers. Other returners for Bemidji State include Alayna Suprenand, who finished the season with 115 points, knocking down 27 3-pointers. Tieryn Plasch and Ashlynne Guenther return for another season for the Beavers after appearing in 26 and 25 games, respectively.

Head coach Chelsea Stoltenberg added Abbie Capesius and graduate transfer Janette Hanni to the 2024-2025 roster, entering her ninth season at the helm of the Beavers.

About the Golden Eagles

Minnesota Crookston travels to the U.P. following a two-loss opening weekend, falling to Nebraska Kearney Friday (99-53) and Pittsburg State (93-79) on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles were tabbed to finish 12th in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll, with Emma Miller being named player to watch in the same release.

Miller and Riley Jenkins are the top-scorers for Minnesota Crookston through two games, averaging 14 and 12 points per game, respectively. Freshman forward Willow Thiel is averaging a team-leading 6.5 rebounds per game and added 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting against Pittsburg State.

The Golden Eagles are still being established under the guidance of second-year head coach Natalie Moynihan as the Golden Eagles.

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech enters the first home weekend following a 1-1 opening weekend in the Wisconsin Dells at the D2 NCAA Midwest Region Tip-Off hosted at the Justagame Fieldhouse.

The Huskies opened the season falling to Lewis, the GLVC Champions a season ago, by a score of 68-57, before downing Thomas More 73-59 to close the tournament.

In Saturday's win, the Huskies' rather young starting lineup accounted for 64 of the total 73 points. Sophomore guard Alyssa Wypych recorded a career-high 21 points on 8-for-10 from the field, including 4-for-6 from deep.

Three additional Huskies reached double-figure scoring, with veteran guard Isabella Lenz adding 15 points, three assists, two blocks and two boards. Sophomore guard Dani Nuest also reached a career-high in scoring with 13 points, while first-year Kendall Standfest recorded a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) in her second game for the Black & Gold.

Her first game for Michigan Tech showed promise with 12 points (5-for-7 from the field) to go with eight rebounds and two steals.

The Huskies produced 11 3-pointers in Saturday's win and are averaging nine 3-pointers per game following the opening weekend, which ranks 22nd nationally and third in the league.

One Last Thing

Michigan Tech has been held to just 13 turnovers per outing thus far. Despite sounding like a lot, the Huskies rank first in the league and 23rd nationally in turnovers per game.
