HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech men's basketball junior guard Marcus Tomashek was predicted Preseason Player of the Year as the Huskies are selected to tie for sixth in the 2024-25 GLIAC Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll announced Thursday.

Lake Superior State was tabbed preseason favorites earning nine first-place votes and 98 points. Ferris State (88 points) and Northern Michigan (80) each received one first-place vote finishing second and third, respectively. Grand Valley State and Wayne State were picked fourth and fifth with Michigan Tech and Parkside tying for sixth with 60 points.

The aforementioned Tomashek is coming off an incredible sophomore campaign, where he finished sixth in the country in scoring, averaging 22.9 points per game while shooting 45.6 percent from the field, 41.3 from long range and 86.7 from the charity stripe. The Green Bay, Wisconsin, native earned D2CCCA All-Region Second Team and First Team All-GLIAC honors. He recorded a career-high 39 points last season and scored 30 or more points in six games and 20 or more points in 15 games.

With Tomashek, the Black & Gold return four additional student-athletes who made at least 17 starts for the Huskies last season in Nate Abel, Pete Calcaterra, Dawson Nordgaard and Josh Terrian. Terrain made 27 starts a season ago averaging 4.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists earning All-GLIAC Defensive Team accolades. 

Michigan Tech returns 14 student-athletes from last season with the addition of a class of three freshmen. 

The 2024-25 season opens on the road for the Black & Gold returning to the JustAGame Crossover for the second year hosted in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, on Nov. 8-9, facing GLVC affiliates Missouri-St. Louis and Maryville.
