HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's basketball team was predicted to finish fifth in the 2024-25 GLIAC Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll announced Wednesday. In the same release, Huskies guard Isabella Lenz was tabbed to make the GLIAC First Team, an accolade she received a season ago.Â
Grand Valley State was the unanimous preseason favorite, earning 10 first-place votes and 100 points. Ferris State earned one first-place vote and 83 points for second. Northern Michigan (75 points) and Parkside (71 points) were picked third and fourth with Michigan Tech fifth.
The aforementioned Lenz is fresh off a First Team All-GLIAC performance last season, seeing her play just under 35 minutes per game in league play while averaging 11.9 points, 3.5 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. She scored in double-figures in 20 games last season, while going 78-for-87 from the charity stripe for a free-throw percentage of 89.7.
Tech guard Alyssa Wypych returns for her sophomore campaign following her freshman season where she played in all 27 games making 11 starts averaging 8.7 points and 2.1 rebounds.Â
As a whole, Michigan Tech returns nine student-athletes from last year's team, welcoming two transfers and four freshmen into the 2024-25 campaign.Â
The Huskies open the 2024-25 season with the JustAGame Crossover on Nov. 8-9, hosted at the Just A Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. Michigan Tech's home opener is the following weekend welcoming NSIC foes Bemidji State on Friday (Nov. 15) and Minnesota Crookston (Nov. 16) Saturday at the SDC Gymnasium.
