HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech defeated Bemidji State 2-1 Friday (Jan. 19) at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Isaac Gordon and Matthew Campbell scored and Blake Pietila made 23 saves as the Huskies improved to 10-10-4 overall and 7-6-0 in the CCHA.

"Happy to win tonight, and the crowd was outstanding and provided us with a lot of energy," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "Bemidji played a good hockey game. We had a really good second but got away from it in the last 10 minutes of the game. We have a long way to go, and we'll look to get better one guy at a time."

After a scoreless first period, the Beavers scored 1:14 into the second when Eric Martin took a sharp-angled shot that found its way in. Vince Corcoran assisted on the only goal for the visitors.

Isaac Gordon tied the game 12:24 into the second period. Jack Works picked up a loose puck and flipped it up to Gordon who was alone in on the goaltender. He snapped it over the glove for his team-leading 12th goal of the season. Logan Pietila also assisted.

"Worksy and LP had a great forecheck," Gordon said. "I read that Worksy had the puck and was climbing so I just went to the net. He made a great pass."

Matthew Campbell scored the eventual game-winner with 3:43 left in the second period. Ryland Mosley laid a huge hit on a Bemidji player deep in the offensive zone which led to offense. He had the puck behind the net and fed a drifting Campbell out front. He wristed in his second of the season past the blocker. Chase Pietila extended his point streak to seven games with the second assist.

BSU (9-14-0, 8-7-0 CCHA) held a 9-8 advantage in shots in the third period but couldn't sneak one past Blake Pietila. The Huskies were called for a penalty with 1:08 left and Pietila made two saves to seal the win—his 67th of his career.

Tech led in shots 30-24. Pietila had 10 saves in the first four in the second and nine in the third. Mattias Sholl stopped 28 shots on the other end.

Michigan Tech held a moment of silence before the game for Kenny Bragg—a pep band member who passed away over the break.

The teams will play for the fourth time this season at 6:07 p.m. Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
