Huskies Drop Thursday Matchup Against No. 11 Bulldogs

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's basketball team was outlasted by No. 12 ranked Ferris State, 66-54, at the SDC Gymnasium on Thursday night.

"I was happy to see our team fight hard," head women's basketball coach Sam Clayton said. "Overall I thought we kept responding and kept fighting back–a 12-point game with the No. 11 in the nation, we're right there. I'm happy with our overall performance and we're taking steps in the right direction."

Michigan Tech (6-7, 2-3 GLIAC) trailed by just three (12-9) at the 2:46 mark in the first quarter before going cold to conclude the first 12 minutes down 16-9. 

Ferris State (9-2, 3-1 GLIAC) took its first double-digit lead of the game with 3:19 to play in the first half with a steal and score by Kenzie Bowers to make it 30-19.

Bowers made it a 15-point game with 1:30 to go, although the Huskies cut it back to 11 heading into the halftime break, with Katelyn Meister hitting the final jump shot of the half.

The Huskies hit half of its 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, putting pressure on the Bulldogs, who led by 12 points to open the final quarter of play, before MTU made it a five-point game after hitting back-to-back 3-pointers by Meister and Isabella Lenz with 6:33 to play.

In a hurry, the Bulldogs called a timeout and jumped back up to a nine-point edge in a minute's time. FSU's lead would swell to 15, with Mya Hiram hitting two free-throws at the 1:25 mark before ultimately finishing with a 12-point cushion at the final buzzer's sound.

For the second consecutive game, Meister led the Huskies in scoring, with 16 points, while chipping in a team-high seven rebounds. Lenz (13) and Alex Rondorf (11) also scored in double-digits for the Huskies.

Kenzie Bowers had a team-leading 14 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs.
