HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech volleyball team handed Wayne State a 3-2 loss Friday (Nov. 3) at the SDC Gym. The Huskies won 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 24-26, and 15-11 to maintain their fourth-place standing in the GLIAC and improve to 12-14 overall and 8-7 in the GLIAC.

"I'm incredibly proud of our Huskies tonight," Tech coach Matt Jennings said. "I can't overstate how important that win was, for not just the win and the standings, but the team.

"They have weapons and they can score. Wayne State is a good team. We let them back in in the third, but the fourth was just a good game. We get to the fifth and the way we finished was something to be proud of."

The Huskies scored six of the final seven points in the first set and got six kills from Meg Raabe and four from Rachel Zurek while the team hit .406.

There were 11 ties and five lead changes in the second. Knotted at 23, Tech setter Tess Hayes turned to Meg Raabe for the final two kills and a 2-0 lead at the break.

The Warriors were down by as many as eight in the third before mounting a comeback with a 16-5 run to make it 2-1.

The fourth set had 17 ties and four lead changes. After a kill by Jacqueline Yancy to make it setpoint for the home team, the Warriors scored the final three points to send it to a fifth and deciding frame.

The Huskies had a 5-1 run in the fifth to take the lead. Tied at 10, Tech closed out the match with another 5-1 run after a pair of kills by Meg Raabe and key points by Rachel Zurek and Kaycee Meiners.

Meg Raabe had a monster match with a career-high 32 kills while hitting .325. Jacqueline Yancy put down a season-high 15 kills, and Kaycee Meiners added 10 kills and eight block assists. Tess Hayes tallied a season-high 57 assists.

The defense racked up 72 digs with Amelia Albers (22), Alayna Corwin (12), Brooke Dzwik (11), Meg Raabe (11), and Tess Hayes (11) all hitting double figures.

The Huskies wrap up the weekend at 3 p.m. on Saturday against Saginaw Valley State on Senior Day.

"We want to make sure we play in honor of those seniors tomorrow," added Jennings.

Lindy Oujiri, Zoe Rhines, Lauren Richards, Leiya Rybicki, and Kate Walch will be honored after the match in their last regular season home appearance.

The Cardinals fell 3-0 at Northern Michigan Friday.
