Volleyball Sweeps Tiffin, Splits Weekend in Ohio

Box Score

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Michigan Tech volleyball team earned a GLIAC weekend split with a 3-0 sweep at Tiffin on Saturday (Sept. 24). The Huskies won 25-21, 25-23 and 25-15.

"I was happy with how we responded to last night's five-setter by coming out and beating a very dangerous Tiffin team," Tech coach Matt Jennings. "By taking control of our side of the net and playing fast and up-tempo, we become a very tough team to defend. Our ball control and serving allowed us to dictate the pace of today's match."

MacAulay Petersen had a match-high 13 kills to lead the Black and Gold. Aubrey Ficek (11) and Lauren Emmert (10) also tallied double digit digs, while Ficek added 14 digs. Rachel Pohlod set the offense with 46 assists and 14 digs. Halie Hart led all players with 17 digs on defense. Stephanie Dietrich had six kills with a .455 hitting percentage.

"Our passing was much better today, and I thought Halie, Elle, Courtney, and MacAulay did a good job getting the ball to Rachel," added Jennings. "Rachel had some amazing digs, and Halie is playing lights out defense right now."

The Huskies improved to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in the GLIAC. They're tied for the fewest amount of sets lost (3) in league play and stay in the Upper Peninsula for the next three matches. The first of two matches against Northern Michigan is Tuesday (Sept. 27) night at Vandament Arena and broadcasted on Fox UP, beginning at 7 p.m.

"I'm excited to play three straight matches in the UP next week. I'm so proud of this group and how tough they are. Considering the schedule, we've played through the first four weeks, I'm pleased with where we stand.

"3-1 is a respectable start to conference play, especially with our one loss coming in five sets," Jennings said. "This week's competition presents our squad with yet another test, as all three teams are strong and well-coached."

Tech hosts Findlay and Wayne State at the SDC Gym next weekend to open the home portion of the schedule. UF is currentlty 4-0 in the GLIAC and WSU is 3-1.
