Box Score Video: Coach Cameron Interview
PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Michigan Tech outscored Lake Erie 44-10 in the second half of a 65-29 GLIAC women's basketball victory tonight. The Huskies led 21-19 at halftime, then held the Storm to just two field goals in the second half to earn their fourth straight win.
Kylie Moxley, who played only five minutes in the opening half with foul trouble, came out and dominated to start the second half. She scored eight points in the first three minutes of the third quarter and went on to make 7-of-8 field goal attempts in the frame including her first 3-pointer of the season.
Meanwhile, the Tech defense held Lake Erie to four points in the third quarter to grab a 47-23 advantage after 30 minutes.
The margin grew throughout the fourth quarter.
"We needed somebody to step up, and that somebody was Kylie," said Tech coach Kim Cameron. "She wanted the ball and really took control.
"I thought our defense was good all game long, and I was really happy with how we finished the game in the fourth quarter."
Three other Tech players joined Moxley in double figures. Morgan Anderson had 12 points on four 3-pointers. Elizabeth Kelliher reached double figures for the third straight game with 12 points. Lindsay Winter notched 10 points.
Kerry Gardner did not score, but had a career-high eight assists and six rebounds. Danielle Blake scored just four points, but was a big factor in holding the Storm's leading scorer, Kayla Gabor, to just two points (14 below her average).
Tech (8-3, 6-1 GLIAC) used a 44-29 rebounding edge and shot 43 percent for the game. Lake Erie (4-9, 1-6 GLIAC) made just 9-of-45 field goals (20 percent).
Michigan Tech will return to action on Saturday (Jan. 9) for a tough battle against No. 7-ranked Ashland. The battle of GLIAC Division leaders will tip off at 1 p.m.
