Box Score BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Michigan Tech dropped a 3-1 decision to Ferris State in GLIAC women's soccer today. Lexi Herrewig scored the lone goal for the Huskies, who fell to 7-5-1 overall and 4-4-1 in league play.
The Bulldogs (12-3-1, 8-1-1 GLIAC) struck first with a header off a corner kick in the 19th minute. Tech took eight shots in the opening half but trailed 1-0 at the intermission.
The Black and Gold posted a 15-13 advantage in shots in the second half, but FSU added to its lead with goals in the 56th and 59th minutes.
Herrewig's tally came on a long shot in the 65th minute to pull the Huskies back within two. It was her team-leading 10th goal of 2015.
Ferris held off Tech the rest of the way to earn the victory.
"We played tough and got better as the game went on," said Tech coach Michelle Jacob. "Our team never stopped fighting at any point. We unfortunately made some mistakes which they capitalized on. We did so many of the right things but weren't able to get the right result."
Michigan Tech returns home for its next two games this weekend. First up is Northwood on Friday (Oct. 23) at 7 p.m.
