Box Score

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Defending national champion Grand Valley State upended Michigan Tech 7-0 in GLIAC women's soccer on GVSU's campus tonight. The No. 4-ranked Lakers improved to 13-1 overall and 9-0 in league play while the Huskies fell to 7-4-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the conference.

GVSU opened scoring in the sixth minute and added goals in the 11th, 13th and 31st minutes for a 4-0 lead at half.

Shots in the opening 45 minutes were 11-3 in favor of the Lakers.

Tech took five shots in the second half while giving up just eight. The hosts added three more goals ('52, '56, '76) for the final total of 7-0.

The Huskies created several good chances including an open look in the box by Lexi Herrewig in the 72nd minute that sailed wide.

"They have speed all over the field and strong technical ability," said Tech coach Michelle Jacob. "We had a hard time keeping up with the speed of play.

"On a positive note, I liked how we played aggressively and didn't sit back. We created a good number of opportunities and made them work on defense."

Michigan Tech will return to action on Sunday (Oct. 18) with a noon game at Ferris State.
