Huskies Move to 2-0 in GLIAC Soccer

Box Score

ASHLAND, Ohio — Michigan Tech scored twice in a three-minute span early in the second half to earn a 2-1 victory at Ashland in GLIAC women's soccer today. The Huskies trailed for 50 of the 90 minutes but received goals from Jacqueline Mielke and Haley Crites to improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.

The Eagles (4-3, 1-2 GLIAC) struck in the fifth minute as Chandra Hohne scored off a crossing pass. Tech put five shots on goal in the opening half, but trailed 1-0 at the break.

In the 56th minute, Mielke got possession inside the box and slid a shot through to knot the game at 1-all. Less than three minutes later, Crites chipped a shot over the goalkeepers head from 10 yards out to put the Black and Gold on top. AU managed only two shots in the five 45 minutes, neither of which were on target.

"It was not a great start today, but we showed a lot of passion and dedication to come back," said Tech coach Michelle Jacob. "It was a physical game, and a great team effort. Everybody stepped up in the second half."

Michigan Tech will return home for two more league games next weekend, starting with Ohio Dominican Friday (Oct. 3) at 7 p.m.

Notes: The Huskies have won four straight games including each of their last three by 2-1 scores … Mielke has a team-high four goals on the season.
