Ladies Remain Unbeaten with 68-55 Win over No. 8 Wayne

Box Score

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech knocked off No. 8-ranked Wayne State 68-55 in a battle of undefeated teams today at the SDC Gym. Sharita Brown had 20 points and 21 rebounds for the Warriors, but Tech got double-digit scoring from four players to move to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the GLIAC.

"It was a great game for us," said Tech coach Kim Cameron. "Wayne State poses a big challenge; they're very talented at every position. Our defense holding them to 55 was the key."

WSU (4-1, 2-1 GLIAC) built up a 20-10 lead through the first 12 minutes as the Huskies made just one of their first eight shots. Emily Harrison checked into the game for Tech and got things turned around. She scored 11 points in the final six minutes of the half including a three-point play at the 1:37 mark to give the hosts the lead for good at 26-25.

The halftime score favored the Black and Gold 29-27.

Tech made the margin grow to 10 as Morgan Anderson drained a 3-pointer with nine minutes to play. The Huskies went the next 14 possessions without points, but retained a two-point edge (55-53) with three minutes to go.

A Brenna Heise jumper from the top of the key pushed the margin back to four. A pair of Warriors turnovers led to three more Huskies points at the free throw line.

Tech ended the game on a 13-2 run as it got four defensive stops.

Anderson totaled 17 points and four assists to lead the Huskies. Kelli Guy added 15 points and Danielle Blake notched her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Harrison finished with 11 points—all in that six-minute span in the first half.

Brown had 20 of Wayne's 55 points and 21 of their 41 rebounds. The Warriors out-rebounded the Huskies 41-34 but committed 14 turnovers to Tech's eight.

Tech shot 39.7 percent from the floor and held WSU to 36.4 percent.

Michigan Tech has just one more game before the new year, a trip to Minot State for a non-conference tilt next Saturday (Dec. 20).
