Second-Half Surge Lifts Women over Findlay 75-60

Box Score

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech outscored Findlay 45-19 in the second half to earn a 75-60 victory at the SDC Gym tonight. Brenna Heise notched a career-high 22 points to help the Huskies improve to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in GLIAC play.

Tech trailed by as many as 14 in the opening half as it struggled to make shots against the Oilers' zone. The Black and Gold made just 3-of-13 3-pointers and 37 percent overall. UF, meanwhile, shot 60 percent in the half and put up the most points the Huskies had allowed in a half all season.

The second half was a completely different story. Tech scored the first five points of the frame on a Heise jumper and a Morgan Anderson 3-pointer. Kelli Guy then caught fire with back-to-back triples to pull Tech within 43-41.

A back-door pass from Danielle Blake to Jillian Ritchie gave Tech their first lead since early in the first half at 46-45. The Huskies never trailed again.

The one-point edge with 14 minutes left turned into 14-point cushion with seven minutes to go.

"The key was our second-half defense," said Tech coach Kim Cameron. "To hold a high-powered team like that to 19 in a half was awesome. We got some shots to fall as well. They didn't go in in the first half, but we told them to keep shooting."

Heise's 22 points came on 10-of-15 field goal accuracy. She also added a game-high nine rebounds including six on the offensive glass. Guy added 18 points, and Ritchie also reached double figures with 11.

Blake posted an odd stat line with just two points but seven assists and nine rebounds.

Both teams shot 48 percent from the field. Tech finished the game at 10-of-25 (40 percent) from 3-point range.]

Findlay (4-2, 1-2 GLIAC) was led by Kristin Klausing's 12 points.

Michigan Tech will be tested on Saturday (Dec. 13) when No. 8 Wayne State comes to the SDC Gym. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
