Box Score HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech volleyball bounced back from a loss to Ashland last night with a 3-0 victory over Lake Erie today. The Huskies needed little more than an hour to win by set scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 25-10.
Sylvie Rokosh pounded down nine kills on just 13 attempts to lead all players offensively. Aubrey Ficek added eight kills and a team-high-tying six digs.
"It's nice to end the weekend with a win," said head coach Matt Jennings. "We made too many unforced errors, but you still have to work hard to get a win in this league, and we did that."
The Storm opened set one with a 7-3 lead before the Huskies roared back. Shelby Jones served five straight times as Tech took an 8-7 lead. She put together four more consecutive serves at the end of the set before Ficek put it away with a kill.
Tech held a 21-15 lead in the second set, but LEC made things interesting by pulling within 23-21. Setter Madeline Haben polished off the 25-22 victory with a kill.
The Huskies dominated set three, gaining a 14-4 lead en route to a 25-10 win.
Six Tech players combined for a season-high 14 service aces in just three sets. Jones had four of those while Kienna Sharp and Ficek notched three each.
"I liked our aggressiveness on our serve," added Jennings. "We knew we could make it a tough day for them if we were aggressive."
Team hitting percentages were .156 for Tech and .013 for Lake Erie.
Michigan Tech (6-7 overall, 3-1 GLIAC) will remain at home for its fifth straight at the SDC Gym when Northern Michigan comes to Houghton Tuesday (Oct. 1). Opening serve is set for 7 p.m.
