Soccer Falls in GLIAC Championship Game on Sunday

Box Score

ALLENDALE, Mich. – In its first GLIAC Championship game, the Michigan Tech soccer team fell 2-0 to the nation's top-ranked team, Grand Valley State, on Sunday (Nov. 10) afternoon. After a scoreless first half, the Lakers buried goals in the 67th and 81st minutes.

With the loss, Tech falls to 14-5-1 overall. The Huskies still have an outside chance of earning an NCAA bid. The NCAA selection show begins at 7:30 p.m. on Monday (Nov. 11). The show can be viewed on NCAA.com.

"We are so incredibly proud of our team's performance today," Tech soccer coach Michelle Jacob said. "It's a great honor to play in the conference championship and a tribute to all the hard work our players, staff and trainers have put into the program."

Goalkeeper Jenna Phelps kept the Huskies in the game all day long, stopping 13 Lakers shots. GVSU outshot Tech 29-5, including a 15-1 advantage in shots on goal.

"We earned the opportunity to play in the last game of the season and fought for every minute of it today," Jacob said. "To play five games in nine days—four of which were on the road—and to still be able to play with the quality and intensity we played with is truly remarkable. I can't say enough about the amazing team we have."

Olivia Emery opened the game's scoring at 66:51 for the 1-0 lead. Kendra Stauffer scored the second Grand Valley goal at 80:53.

"We appreciate all the support from the fans in the stands and cheering from afar," Jacob added. "We are fortunate to represent Michigan Tech and the community that surrounds it. Husky fans truly are the best around!"
